Thinking of getting one for .223 with the BDC. But my biggest concern is eye relief - it appears that the eye relief is like 3 inches or less.

Any experiences here? I want a high quality scope for my AR in .223, as well as perhaps using it for my 9mm and 45 uppers.

Any other suggestions for a smaller profile magnifying optic similar to this? Or is the IOR the shiznit.

Don't want to spend more than $400

One thing to remember with eye relief is that you have limited options on mounting a scope to an AR. If all you have is a flattop upper receiver, more than 3" of eye relief will push your head back to about the middle of an A2 buttstock.

To use an example, I use a TA11 with 2.4" eye relief. In order to use a nose-to-charging handle hold on it, I have to mount the scope with the objective hanging over the barrel nut and the front of the mount flush with the front of the upper receiver.

A long eye relief scope will require a rail system and a mount that can bridge the barrel nut (as well as a rail that won't spin) or one of the still very difficult to get extended eye relief mounts from Larue.

At under $400, I think you will have a tough time finding a variable magnification optic that beats the IOR. If you are willing to consider Reflex style sights, then a used EOtech or Aimpoint might be within your budget.
