Teoma is now merged with Ask.com - What search engine do you use?

Many, many months ago, I heard that the big search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) were not gun friendly. At the time, Teoma was recommended, and I've happliy searched at teoma.com ever since.

Now, I find out that Teoma has merged with ask.com which is apparently tied to iwon.com in some way. I did a search for "guns" on on ask/teoma and google and got similar (also read acceptable) results. The same search on AltaVista produced different results.

What search engine do you use? Is there a SE that is more gun/2nd ammendment/RKBA-friendly than others?

Every Gun Related search I've made on Google has been productive with nary a hint of "anti gun" sentiment. You heard wrong, IMO.

Well, I had heard that some search engines return weird stuff or nothing at all when you try a firearms-related search. I guess I misunderstood. Sorry. :(
 
That would be pretty odd. Believe it or not, most of the people I know in the high-tech industry are libertarian, mistrustful of government, and pro-gun.
 
Never heard of any SE being non-gun friendly. :confused:

I use http://www.us.ixquick.com/ for a SE.
Ixquick is a metasearch engine: when you search Ixquick, you are searching many popular search engines at the same time. Combined, these engines cover more of the Internet than any one search engine covers.

It's just as fast as any other SE and I get some results that don't show up using a regular SE.
 
Just for the record, this merge really pisses me off.

I liked the old Teoma.

I liked how easy it was to read, navigate, and set up advance searches.

I took an Internet Class back in my earlier classes, we used various SEs to complete assignments. This was about the time some threads in regard to Anti Gun Folks, in various business were going on THR and TFL.

Anywho, as per assignments and all [ sending in screeshots ] Many of us got nailed with Viruii, Spam and all sorts of nasties. A semester before the instructor said a "few" nasties. She apologized and I used Teoma to continue my studies...other classmates took my advice.

Granted we had to do this using IE...just the way the College and studies set up at the time...

I see so many folks at College get home systems screwed up using Google and Yahoo toolbars. Local DSL is a Yahoo affliate...

I like the underdog, the little guy, open source...
Not a big fan of Gates and other big proprietary folks - understand free market, and I do not have to use what I don't want to...
Sometimes "big" ain't good. Often times something get too big for its britches and forgets "what brung 'em".

Google just feels "wrong" same feeling I get when I install XPPro/ any Windoze system...because I have to use the damn thing. Don't mean I got to like it...

I use Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird on personal laptop, I HAVE to use IE at College and that damn Google toolbar is on too many PCs I have to use. Has that Symantec crap too...

Maybe I am not as smart , as far along as many in my studies...

My gut says to not trust Google as far as I can throw them.

Gonna listen to my Gut and be pissed Teoma is gone. I got that right.

I've never been interested in the "popular" search engines. Too much advertising.
Ixquick has little or no ads. It's owned by a Dutch company, can't find any info on them....Surfboard Holding BV

Oh, is that what the deal is?

*shrug*

Their loss, I guess. As far as I can tell, no one looks at the ads anyway - just the search results.

I will not touch google.Maybe it should be called gurgle or garbage.

Last year I sent them a letter expressing my opinon of their restriction of gun ads etc. I received the following:

do not allow ads for websites that sell guns or related products.

Google believes strongly in freedom of expression and therefore offers

guns and related products.

With their recent involvement in Chinese censorship,I mailed a response to "their reply" which included:

Gee,you aren't following "without censoring results" rules too well are you? You never did all you care about is MONEY. Got to make a few billion dollars more don't you? No matter what the cost,that's all that matters to you.
Human rights don't matter to you,what you can buy with the money you get does.

I also added some links to requests for boycotts against them.

I would love to see them bite the bullet.
 
Also remember that Google is the ONLY search engine resisting a push from the US Government to get access to the searches that have been performed.
 
The "no gun ad" policy of Google got me looking at Teoma and it has been my home page since.

They, I believe, were always associated with Jeeves. I'll adopt a wait and see on this but have to admit I rather like the new set-up. Google was in dire need of competition and now that doesn't look as far-fetched as it did only yesterday.

I actually rather like the image link that's returned in web searches. Hover your pointer over the "binoculars"...
 
Google, good results, neat features. I don't care if they don't take gun advertising. Since google isn't a search engine company they're going to be much harder to unseat than previous top dog engines.
 
Everything on google is logged and archived by time of day, ip and search query. I think the govt 'trying' to get search queries, etc. is a smoke screen and a load of bull, Half of the programmers at google are or were involved in govt contract work.

I knew it was something concerning guns.



SM: I miss Teoma too. However(after further thought), I think I'll "wait & see" about Ask.com (like Hawk).
 
ok what about a news SE?

google news is the only news search engine? I hate yahoo's because they make you pay for artivcles
