Isn't an attempt (successful or not) still an attempt? I think they will try something but not be successful simply from all the people working on making sure all or most weak spots are strengthened.

How many times have we been in orange alert? How many times has something happened. Perhaps you can understand why i completely dismiss these warnings and make absolutely no changes to my life.

If something's gonna happen it's gonna happen in Time's Square New Year's Eve when there will be a million Americans packed in a small area like sardines.

That said - I don't think anything is gonna happen. The government is just playing the circuses part of the old bread and circuses game with the stupid threat level system.

I doubt it. I fear that kid in Homeland Security more with his orange crayon.

I was in Time Square, for New Year's Eve in 1998.:D

You are right, Time Sqaure would be a prime target.:uhoh:

I think there's probably about a 25% chance, so I voted "no." But I don't have a real good feeling about it this time.

My money says when they do it, it'll be a plane into a nuclear facility or the Sear's Tower, or shooting another plane out of the air.

Its interesting that the terrorists are now most likely to hit us during our religeous or secular holidays, yet our country has given the enemy a break and halted bombing during Ramadan in the past which seems to be 6 months out of the year.:cuss:

Terrorists would love to have our own air force shoot down a hijacked plane full of passengers. Can you imagine the distrust and fear that would create? I don't think it'll happen though, would be very difficult for them to orchestrate and they'd have to be real lucky to boot.

We could eliminate the entire airport security circus if every passenger was given a sling shot and a handful of ballbearings when they enter the plane. I guess we could never expect anything that proactive in our society of sheeple.

If memory serves me correctly, this is the fourth time that we are in condition 'orange' since we started this.

Also, has anyone considered the possibility that maybe the reason why nothing has happened in the past is because we WERE on a higher alert and an attempt, therefore, was called off and not made or stopped before it could be successful but not widely reported?

I remember reading the Secret Service prevented an attack in IL that would have rivaled what happened in NYC if it was successful. However, it wasn't widely reported. Could be that there are a LOT of these that might not be reported at all.

If it happens, it will be with/to a cargo facility: either ship or air. Obvious targets like Times Square will be so heavily patrolled they'd be stupid to waste themselves and not succeed. Smart money will hit us where we ain't lookin' when we ain't expecting it. :uhoh:

edited to observe that's my post # 911 :uhoh: :uhoh:

Leatherneck,

The news this morning is saying that "chatter" is pointing to either Rappahanock (the county not the river) or Tappahanock (out your way) as being possible targets behind the new alert.

dischord:
Yeah, I saw that. The ComPost this morning had an article highlighting the bafflement of local LEOs in Tappahannock. Sort of a "Huh? Here? Why?" attitude. I've got to believe that something got lost in the translation. :D

Who? Where? When? We know why.

I do wonder just how long the public will be interested in the alert color of the day.

I do realize that if no alert were called and something got blown up, the people who failed to change the color would be changed in a flash.

These people in charge are in the classic "damned if you do and damned if you don't" position. So they play it for all it's worth. They raise the color level. If something happens, they look good because they "told you so." If nothing happens, they look even better because they "prevented it" whatever "it" was.

I keep hearing the talking heads saying they do not intend to change anything in their lives because of the alert level. "Great! Just what in hell would you change if you intended to change something?" I keep yelling at my TV.

If they tell me that terrorists are going to blow up the bridge down the road at midnight, I'll damn sure change something. I'll get in the car, cross the bridge to the beer store, load up and return before midnight. But what will I change if someone says "They might blow up a bridge in California." "They might blow a hole in a tanker in Valdeze, Alaska." "They might _______ a ________ in _______."[fill in the blanks]

And remember, folks. We've got YEARS of this ahead. This will wind up making the Hundred Years War look like a stroll in the park before we are done with it. Er,,,,ah,,,,..well, we'll be done with it before it's done with us. There are some advantages to getting old.

And how many times did they go on alert at Pearl Harbor? They expected an attack anywhere but Pearl, those dumb Japs didn't know any better. They are still laughing in the hull of that old rusty battleship laying on the harbor floor.

They are too smart to hit the IRS or BATF, that would be a service to the american people, not terrorism. I think there will be some attempted attack in the next thirty days and that it will be thwarted. I know we've been to orange before, but I have a bad feeling about this one. I also have a feeling that they will not succeed.

Potential Terrorist Target's?

My personal thought's are that they will "back off"
major U.S. cities, such as NYC, DC, Chicago, LA,
Miami, Atlanta, and Dallas; leaving such cities as
Denver, St. Louis, Memphis, Seattle, Charlotte,
New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Phoenix as vunderable
target's. I think as a whole, that the U.S. will be
prepared; and thwart any and all possible
terrorist activity; but sadly, it might come at a
very high price?

Best Wishes,
