Based on a recent thread I bought the Teslong Bore Scope to try out. I just got it up and running on my Android phone. I need to get it set up on my computer with the nice large screen.

A pic I took with the App. Could be a bit more crisp, but not bad, and it lets me see what's in there.

If I remember right, that scope was pretty cheap. I’d say for the cost, that’s a pretty decent picture.

I've seen that recommended multiple places like on Gunboards, etc. Glad that someone I know has tested it so I might give it a whirl. Did you get it from Amazon?

A little hard to see the edges of the lands from the pics. Hope you can adjust the focus to help. If so, that will make a useful tool! The part of the pic not looking at the mirror looks like it would provide more information regarding wear.

I don't know if you can, I don't think so. I need to check.

I just read the tee tiny directions again and it can be crudely focused by screwing the part with the mirror in and out. It has a tiny lock ring there as well. But no, you cannot focus the image while it is in the bore.

I put that scope in my wish list the other day. Looks to show more 2-D than 3-D images. Am I correct on that assumption? Even if so, not a bad price.

Not a lot of depth to the view, but plenty good enough to see if you got it clean.

I bought the Lyman back when it was $135; it's not as good as a traditional optical borescope but it does let me compare barrel finishes and throat condition. They're useful tools, even tho they're really not pro quality.

Just put one on my wish list.

Is there a good pictorial reference library somewhere of "what to look for with a bore scope?" A reference that showed, "This is copper fouling," "this is pitting," "these are tool chatter marks," etc., could be really helpful.

    Something like this.

I bought one based on the "other thread".

Works great, the mirror adjustment does work some to adjust focus. The only downside I've seen is increased expenditures for copper solvents...

I'm also amazed at how well a couple of my rifles shoot with the tool marks they have in their barrels.

I think I might have been happier not knowing. Not smarter or better informed, just happier. When I got mine, I just had to look in every barrel I have in the house. They were all dirtier than I would have ever thought. No big deal. But the checking in my match rifle made me cry.

I guess knowledge is power, an if I start saving now……

This has been my go-to for years as far as cleaning and pictures. Not a perfect library but very distinct patterns and descriptions. Rimfire Research: http://www.ssvtexel.nl/index.cfm?act=files.download&ui=C5C9D865-2200-0A21-B5F5CF897974784F

Darn, this scope does not work with iPhone...yet. Apparently they are working on that.

Thanks for the heads up on this bore scope, Walkalong. :)

Thanks Walkalong for the review, I ordered one. I have a cruder and older endoscope that did ok but not really designed as a borescope.

Me too, 30 degree angle, good for looking into some things, but not great for a bore, and you can't take a picture.

Update, I do have mine now thanks to Walkalong and it is actually quite good for the price. Used it on a 7.65 Mauser barrel just now and it produces sharp pictures. It also works well with a Linux program called Cheese Webcam which allows you to shoot video and pictures with it. I prefer it connected to a large screen rather than a cellphone.

Major issue with them seems to be when people try tightly coiling the semi rigid bore part which disrupts and probably cracks the fiber optic cable. That is one reason that the carrying case is no longer provided and that the bore probe itself has a warning not to coil it tightly and preferably leave it straight in storage.

Yea, plan is to get it working with my computer in the reloading room which is not connected to the internet and has a big screen. I still need to focus it as well.

I suspect that any screen cam software might make it work. I will try it with my windows 8.1 and 10 a bit later as I have that software on both of them. I can state that it works with linux and the program above even in creating longshot videos of the bore. The length also was fine with the m91 29 inch barrel so that I could observe the entire length. When restoring old rifles, I have to use old used barrels so it is nicer than my older cheaper borescope for a bit finer definition and ease of use.

Windows 7 on the desk top in the reloading room. Teslong says they will send the software if you email them.
