This group has been mentioned in a couple threads, but has no thread of its own. Since I've been really impressed by the VCDL in Virginia, thought I'd bring the subject up.

They're pretty new and website is being built, but the overall thrust seems to be that they're working to legalize Open Carry in Texas. As I understand it, Texas prohibits Open Carry because Florida does so, and we cribbed most of our CCW laws from FL.

TCDL is inspired by but not affiliated with VCDL, as is ACDL (Arizona). Given AZ's great gun laws, I'm not quite sure what AZfolks have to defend themselves from (coyotes?), but good on 'em anyway.

Membership in TCDL is free, so I signed up just for jollies. If there's any tremendous reason why all THR TXfolks shouldn't sign up, please post it in this thread, otherwise I'd say all several thousand TXmembers should take the two dang minutes it takes to sign up.

Please, do NOT turn this into a thread as to the merits of Open vs. Concealed. Nobody is going to force you to carry open. Unless you think that TCDL is a bad idea/front group, or think that Open Carry should remain illegal, please refrain from hating. Thanks,

Great Idea!

AZ could be a bit better, you can't go to a bar/rest and carry.
NV needs improvement, we need a stand yer ground law and library and state park carry.
We all need to be able to carry in Nat Parks (VCDL is working on that)

I'm in no position to do anything right now....I have in the past and will do in the future...God willing

great idea

I'm already signed up.:)

With the every-other-year session of the legislature coming up in January, if we don't do anything now, we will have to wait at least another two years. :banghead:

Barring any sudden revelations as to why TCDL is a bad idea, I'll whip up a batch of paper slips with their info and hand them out at the next SAXET show.

Printed out 10 sheets of paper slips, about 24 to the sheet, for 240 total. Each has info like in my sigline IRT the TCDL.

Handed out all of them at the SAXET gunshow today. Weren't hard to hand out, most folks were interested and said very positive things.

-had a few that insisted that open carry was completely legal in TX, and that I didn't know what I was talking about

-had a few that said " I'druther keep 'em guessin' ", and didn't care if other people preferred to carry open.

-One cut me off with "I don't need to hear any speeches", and when I mentioned the importance of political activity said "I AM political, I vote".

That's about it for now. Will see how this develops.

It was really, really easy. Just wandered the gunshow as usual w/ my sale items, and handed out a buch of slips. I'm no Monkeylegs or Jim March yet (WI and CA political activists), but it feels good to at least do a little something. Also had the UT Women's Shoot this weekend, but MacPelto will be posting a thread on that (w/ many pics) in a day or two.

Despite what the haters say, there are tons of gunfolk in Austin...

Not in TX yet, but I signed up a few weeks ago.

I'm waiting for them to contact me again with info on how I can help. I do plan to (in the very near future) get a list of TX state officials/reps and start sending letters.

Signed up a few weeks ago...maybe Ill get the chance to promote them more in the near future.

Good deal; I've got about 400 hits each from ARF, THR, and TFL.

I'll drop the folks a line and see what the immediate goal is for the upcoming legislative session.

Folks have been speculating as to whether TCDL is going for legalized Open Carry this session, or focusing on straightening out the "lawful travel" debacle first.

I'll go get it from the horse's mouth and post back when I have more info. In the meantime, it anyone else wants to print out some info-slips and leave them at your local range/shop/gunshow, it'd be good to get the word out on this. Grassroots activism isn't as hard as folks make it out to be.

I'd get more involved with this, but I'm already doing a night as week converting the kids at the UT campus shooting range. This still seems a worthy cause, especially since you just need a couple dedicated agitators and then a decent grassroots backing them up.

I signed up last night, as well as forwarded the link to an interested co worker. If I can make a big enough hole in my time, I'll try to get some of those flyers printed out, and see if the local to me gunshops would be willing to pass 'em out.
