Hello Boys and Girls.

I would like to invite one and all to our second annual Copperhead Farms Turkey shoot in Evant Texas.

Prizes are as follows:

1st place: $500.00 and a hunt for one legal deer of your choice.

2nd place:$250.00 and the biggest butterball turkey we can find.

3rd place:$100.00 and the 2nd biggest Butterball we can find.

There are no entry fees and the firearm and ammunition will be provided.

This shoot will take place on October the 18th and shooting starts at 9a.m. and will continue until the last shooter fires or dark falls, whichever comes first.

Bar-b-que and cold drinks provided (sorry, bring your own beer).

The shooting will test your rifleman skill.

One shot, fired off hand at 100 yards at the bull.
The rifle will be a heavy barrel scoped Marlin .22 magnum.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

Come on out and join the fun.
Hope to see you there. Brian

How does that work?

I dont have anything to do with this but the way these thing work isusually something like this.......

The organization provides a firearm and ammo, in this case it's a .22 mag. To keep things fair everyone shoots with the same rifle/ammunition. The participant pays a fee for one shot at said target, which is stated is at 100 yards. Just a guess here but the fee could be $1 per shot to $20 a shot, that's set by the folks running the shoot.

This shoot costs you absolutely nothing.

You come out, eat all the bar-b-que you can stomach,(drink it if ya brung it) flirt with my pretty girlfriends, take your best shot at the bull and if you are closest, you get $500.00 and the chance to shoot one of the many corn-fed herbivores roaming around this ranch, (and no that does not mean the Angus).:D

No hidden fees just a good ol'fashion shoot for fun and sport.

Last year a 19 year old girl who had just recieved her first firearm instruction that day was leading the pack of some 25 or so seasoned shooters for awhile before she got dethroned.

Come out, shoot straight and have fun, We got the rest covered. Brian

The shoot costs you nothing, but unless you live nearby, it may be a very expensive drive for BBQ and to flirt with your girls. My wife doesn't like me to flirt with other women as it is, so that part is out. The 200 mile round trip drive for me, time, etc. is pretty pricey for a BBQ meal. Getting a chance to win a prize is nice, but not much incentive given the time and gas expense.

So you are having everyone out for free food and a chance to some nice free prizes and you are doing this out of the good of your heart or is this a time-share, Amway, cult, deer lease sale pitch sort of marketing ploy?

Don't get me wrong for being somewhat doubtful. Few people engage in such altruistic endeavors. There almost always seems to be some sort of underlying motive.

Yeah, that was basically my question too, sorry for being so cryptic. Over $850 in cash & prizes (not counting the deer hunt which I have no easy way to price) plus ammo, operating and food costs but with no entry fees to help recoup any expenses.

Being the curious (and practical) sort, I wondered how something like that works?

WOW!

Not really sure how to respond.

I can find nothing in what I wrote that was rude or misleading.

I took a step back and attempted an honest look at it from the responders point of view.
While taken aback, I can somewhat understand the pessimism.

Last year I advertised this in the Evant paper and put fliers up in the local feed stores and gas stations so it was more of a local thing.

This year I thought it would be great to expand that to others around the area who enjoy the same things we do (hunting and shooting).

No hidden agendas, Scouts honor.

Maybe "PARTY AT MY PLACE WITH GUNS" is what I should have written!:D

P.S. DOUBLE NAUGHT SPY: If you dont want to flirt with my girls, at least bring yours so I can flirt with her. :neener:

I didn't mean to imply that what you wrote was rude, but you have to admit that a shooting competition that costs the organizer something like $900-$1000 for a competition with no chance of any return is enough to generate a bit of curiosity as to what the "catch" might be...

It sounds like fun, and although it's a 5-6hr round trip drive I'm going to keep it in mind in case my schedule allows it.

Now that is much more in line with the reaction we were hoping for John.

We hope to see you here. Brian

Wow!
Thanks one and all for this years participation at Copperhead Farms second annual turkey shoot.

We were able to double last years shooters and hope to make next years event even bigger and better.

This years winners were,

2nd place: Mr. David Townsend of Evant (who by the way placed third in last years event)

3rd place: SGTMAJ Gary Josey (Ret.) of Waco

For those that did not make it out this year we hope you make plans for next year.

Truly a great day. Brian, Cathy and Michelle.
