Well, thanks to Uncle Sam, I was finally able to order my AR kit from Del-Ton. I went with the mid-length flat top with chrome lined barrel (non-chrome was on 8-12 week backorder), OD furniture and the cushy ergo grip. I ordered the kit on Sunday and it was sitting at my door today. I felt so special when I pulled it out of the box and saw a hang tag attached to the upper with my name on it. Anyways, everything went together super smoothly and I think it looks great. The real test will be at the range this weekend. I also picked up a couple surplus mags to go along with this P-Mag. I figured I had to buy at least one to go along with the OD theme. The red dot is a Bushnell Holosight from eBay. Apparently according to the guys at AR15.com, they are made by Eotech and pretty good substitutes for 1/3 the price. I also got a fixed rear iron sight...not sure if I'm going to put that on as well or just go with the red dot for now. I'll probably start the hunt for a flip-up so I can fold it out of the way unless I need go to BUIS. Here she is...I plan on going to the range tomorrow and will post back with first impressions.

Nice, I'm going for a similar one with a flat dark earth color. Need a grip, rails, optics, and my upper yet. I have the lower and some mags ready to go. I can't stand the wait.

Make sure you write Miss Polousi a kind thank you letter and tell her what you spent the money on.

Very nice rifle. I'm planning on getting a Del-Ton kit later this summer. Make sure you keep us up to date on how it shoots.

Well I finally got a chance to take this gun to the range and I am very happy with it. I fed it about 80 brass-cased rounds (Remington & PMC) and then a mix of Brown Bear and Wolf steel-cased. Total was about 200 rounds and no problems whatsoever. Mags were Okay Industries and a PMAG...both performed as expected. The Bushnell sight also seemed to work well and hold zero. I had no trouble seeing the sight, even in bright sunlight. After bore-sighting it at my house, I was able to hit paper at 100 yards pretty easily. Overall I am super happy and have no complaints. I also added a front hand rail and vertical fore-end grip.

BTW, there was a guy at the range insisting that I was going to ruin my AR by feeding it steel-cased ammo. I finally told him, hey, its my gun and I'll feed it what I want to...leave me alone so I can enjoy my range time in peace.

Good for you.

My Del-ton has had 120rds of Wolf polymer and 40 rds of Monarch laquered. All functioned fine with the exception of one pierced primer on a Wolf case. I have talked to people who have put several cases of steel case ammo through their ARs with no problems, and I have talked to people who have put mabye two boxes of Steel cased ammo through their ARs and had nothing but problems. I am guessing whether or not steel case will work depends on the gun and how well the person takes care of it.
