With Thanksgiving near, I thought I'd offer my thanks for the things I have.

I'm thankful for living in the United States. Good, bad, or indifferent, this is the greatest country in the world.

I'm thankful for the rights and freedoms I have and the right to yell and scream about the ones that have been lost for whatever reason.

I'm thankful for the generations before mine who sacrificed for my freedom and the generations after mine who continue to fight the fight.

I'm thankful that even though the laws are many (to many), I still don't have to be a victim.

I'm thankful that I see well enough to still be able to shoot straight. (Well, sorta straight)

I'm thankful my family doesn't think I'm completely gun crazy.

And I'm thankful that there are places like this where a gun nut can feel at home.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING :D

Nothing to add, except "Amen", and a prayer that God will speed and guide us along this rocky road called "Life".

And protect our troops, as they defend Freedom, and guardLady Liberty for us all.

Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas,
it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful of His benefits and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and

"Whereas,
both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me 'to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness;

"Now, therefore,
I do recommend and assign Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November next to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our service and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
"And also,
that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, A.D. 1789."

A heartfelt Happy Thanksgiving to all. In spite of all the complaining and raging, we should be thankfull for all that we have; the greatest country on earth and, in my case, the best wife and children, and we are all healthy and happy.

:D

Happy Thanksgiving to all! :D :D

There are many things to be thankful for this year & having a place like THR to hang out in is one of them...Thanks all!

I hate turkey.

Why do I hate turkey?

When I was a kid, we all got to choose our own birthday meals. Mine is tomrrow, 11/26.

But all too often, at least too often for my taste, thanksgiving and my birthday either coincide, or my birthday would be following by a day or so.

So I got to "choose" leftover turkey and other "feast" by-products.

Do you know what my favorite thanksgiving feast involves? Pizza, beer, and a big screen tv...

Felicitations to all for Thanksgiving.:)

Count blessings ... - preferably every day. Remember and give thanks to those who cannot be here to celebrate the day with us ... and remember too those less fortunate.

I stopped for a snack in the mall eating area other day .. my back was giving me much discomfort (usual!) . and I was feeling a tad sorry for myself ... and aware of all one's ''problems''. I then watched as a guy in a wheelchair went up to order a plate of eats .. and proceeded then to a table .. alternating his hold on the plate in order to use other hand to make forward/part sideways progress .. and still go sorta ''straight''. He had severely malformed legs ... I am fortunate even tho my back aches . I DO have legs.

Same day, but outside a store elsewhere .. watched a guy in another wheelchair .. NO legs . he was a small torso .. making his way along.

Yeah ... give thanks .... we take far too much for granted.

In remembrance of those who will not be here for Thanksgiving

IT IS THE SOLDIER...

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Well, I'll be working over Thanksgiving (no peace for prison chaplains! :D ), but I hope and pray all of you have a wonderful time with your families and loved ones. Have some turkey (or pizza, Bogie! :D ) for me!

Thanks, and God bless you, too, Preacher. Prison's gotta suck big time on the holidays, and it's gotta be a good thing to have someone there who can help some of them souls focus on making a positive life change for when they get out. Pax vobiscum:)

Mike-

I do believe it was Lincoln who signed the bill that formally made Thanksgiving a permanent holiday. Following GW's cue, of course.

I'm Thankful that I get to spend Thanksgiving with my wife, instead of in Kuwait/Iraq, which is where the unit to which I was assigned until August is now.

I'll be celebrating by putting on my dress blues and serving turkey to 750 basic trainees in the battalion DFAC.

God Bless, everyone.

If it makes you feel any better, Peter, I have to work too. Not on Thanksgiving, but I am going to work the 5 a.m. shift at Best Buy on the day after. They tell me it's actually a little bit like a prison riot, only fewer people are armed and you have to put printers and computers in their hands before they escape. :D

I'm working part of the day, too. In fact, I'm at work as I type this (it's 10:30 PM here in Colorado), and I'll be here until about 5:30 tomorrow morning.

Then I'm going home, to bed, and up around 2:00 to go with my wife and kids to a friends house for FOOD!

I guess I'm most thankful for my wife on this day. Without her, the rest of it just wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable. And the kids would be non-existant.

Langenator, you're right, found it -

Thanksgiving proclamation by Abraham Lincoln (Truncated version)

"The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict.

"Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship. Population has steadily increased, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

"No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.

"I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that they do also commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union."
