The .30-06…the king of cartridges is it fading to the sidelines?

The decline of 3006 (and any other cartridge) won't become critical unless the kind of soy milktoast that gets PTSD from just standing next to someone shooting an AR15 in 'full semi auto" becomes the baseline for new shooters.

Until then, it may decrease in popularity relative to some of the lighter recoiling platfoms out there, but I cannot see a world where it will not be commonly found on the shelf. It may fade from the top spot, but never into obscurity.

06 vs whatever - is the rifle version of 45 vs 9. And the discussions tend to devolve in the same way. At the end of the day, it will be economics and politics that will have the real effect on the cartridge (and all cartridges) far more than all other factors and competitive alternatives combined.

a 6.5 manbun

BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!
That is the best laugh I've had in a while

The difference in trajectory at 1000 yards

Now nothing negative towards Slamfire but I have heard/read this phrase ad nauseum of late, on the forums and shooting magazines. If you are punching paper or Jack-a-Nopes at 1000yrds I'm happy for you. You can't even see that far in this part of our State.
Is anyone else tired of hearing about the newest, greatest 6.58675309 Shootzen Vhizzel Banger that will do at a kilometer what a fork will do at 10 feet?
Woof...
It gets a little old.
*rant over, you may move along now*
:D

I'm way more tired of people making long winded complainatory rants about it. For every 1 actual fanboy there are 30 people bellyaching about all the fanboys. We get it, the 6.5 swede was the greatest thing ever made and cartridge development should have stopped there. Are you all happy now?

What is a 6.5 swede?
(snicker....)
Just funning.
Shooters and hunters will use whatever cartridge they want to use, we are a truly diverse crowd. The best part is that we have the choice! If you want to atomize ground piggies with a .338 Norma magnum, that is cool. If you want to leap from a tree onto a whitetail deer and kill it with a Buck Knives 184 Buckmaster Survival knife more power to you. (I knew a guy that wanted to do that.) Personally, I want to be rid of this flinch so I can go back to my 7mm Mag. Also high on the priority list are, in no special order, H&K 91 variant, a Galil, M1 Garand, M1A1, AR10, flat top AR15, a Tavor, a FN LAR para (my first FN LAR was a para and nothing else compares), SCAR, AUG, Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) even the .22lr version is acceptable, K98 and a super lightweight 7mm-08 with detachable mags and a long eye relief scope. There are many more but I'll stop now.

Hey, I've got one of those Buck 184 knives with my name/rank engraved on it! It was a gift from my 1st platoon when I was an LT. Honestly I've yet to find a use for it, most of us carried either Swiss Army knives, or Leathermans. The 184 is a big honking piece a SS.

All the Boomer Fudd “mAnbUn,” “iT’s a fAd, sEe HoW lOnG iT lAstS” BS is exhausting… way, way more wasted bandwidth online of bitching Boomers than any Fanboi BS.

I agree. Usually make calling means you don't have a valid argument anyway.
I will never own a 6.5 because I am set up with a 260.
I've recommended the 6.5 to several new shooters over 308 and 30-06. It has the same effectiveness the 30-06 had with the poor quality bullets of the early 1900s.
Better powder and bullets made the 30-06 better. But it's not needed for most of what an 06 is used for.

Thank you for your service.
They seem to be collectable now, not sure why. I bought one when they were all the rage and was quickly disappointed. It was way too heavy, the threaded "anchors" took up all the room inside the hallow handle, the round grip was a bugger to index besides rubbing your skin raw, the saw back was useless and the freaking blade tip broke off in a wooden stump. Add to that a knife review that showed the blade breaking off cleanly at the grip with a single strike to an anvil and it was sold off at a major loss. Bought an EK in '86 and love it, but still struggle with sharpening the compound edge. Then a friend gave me a Mk3 USN dive knife after working together during the Katrina cleanup. It is heavy, but it is a great all around woods/utility knife.

Agree with all! About the only thing it has going for it is some Rambo like looks...

I've often thought about selling it, but for the gift and having my name on it. After 26 years doing the Army thing I've got containers full of "I love me" stuff from different units. Normal woods bumming and hunting I carry a Bark River Highland Special with about a 3.5" blade in a drop point with a convex grind. It does all I have to do. For the farm like chit I do, it's a Leatherman.

30-06 is barely available anywhere (Maryland WV Panhandle / Southern PA) and where it is it’s over $2/round. 308 is plentiful everywhere and under $1/round. It’s been this way for a long time.

Is it different for anyone else?

Anyone that is paying over $2.00 a round for a 30-06, needs to learn how to reload!

Pre-crazy you could easily find .30-06 for only a bit more than .308 in hunting loads.

Now the only rounds that seem halfway affordable are the stuff they make in bulk for gun gamers…. 9mm, 7.62x39, 5.56, .300 blk, 6.5 hipster, and 7.62x51.

I've hit a critical point where I've embraced just saying ok boomer and moving on. And I'm not that far away from that age range either so it's doubly funny.

Ok fanboy, just admit it. You are jealous of us boomers. As you should be.

There’s generally not much positive I can say about the Boomer generation. The best thing they’ve done for me is start retiring out of the workforce so we don’t have to tolerate their racism, sexism, and anti-progressivism. The “acceptance” of that generation of the 6.5 Creedmoor is parallel to what I’ve seen of their overall acceptance of anything else different from themselves. They’ll all just be memories soon though…

Wow that is a mighty broad brush you are wielding there...

ETA: I am a Gen-X'er if that matters any...

Just give it time. Everyone passes from a young lion to an old salt. It will happen to you!

You seem a to be a little overwrought. I'm a Gen-Xer for whatever it is worth though I spent a lot of time hanging out with baby boomers. The thing is when we get all righteous & holier than thou with people we think are intolerant we become intolerant. Sometimes I need to be reminded not to take myself too damn seriously.

I am surprised that you don't hate us for having guns. Isn't that what your lot do. Hate. Guns.

This feels a bit disrespectful to the men that came before you and fought to protect your freedoms.
Maybe you’ve forgotten that or perhaps I’ve misunderstood your comments.

Maybe you’ve forgotten that.

Maybe you’ve forgotten when the Boomer’s were actually born.

Seems a lot of folks like kicking around generalities and “painting with a broad brush” about younger generations, but get pissy when someone points a finger back at the generation which failed to pass on American pastimes like hunting and shooting to their children, and is famously intolerant of race, religion, and gender… but hey, only one side gets to point fingers, right?
