Oh, man, that's beautiful!

Remind us of barrel length, please.

And keep us posted about how (or if) it effects groupings at, say, 100 yds.

The barrel is 16.25".
Sighted it in today. 2 shots to zero, Then 8 more, 7 went into just under 1" with one flyer opening it up to about 1.5". This is at 50yds with federal cheapie 150gr ammo.

I like this one!!!!

Badlander, you're right: I do want to do it.

Unfortunately, as in years past, my circumstances just don't allow it yet.

I recently moved across the country, my rifles aren't even out here yet - not until I find better place to live (where I am now is temporary, with friends, and not secure), and I have to get my cash flow going again before I have the money to do it. (Part of the reason I came here was to try to do better professionally than on the west coast; I'm taking steps, but not there yet.)

Badlander, that looks really great. A narrow leather sling would finisher her off nicely I think. But everyone has different sling preferences.

Thanks Able. I only have 1 sling it carrys anything I have to sling. Love QR sling studs!!
I may get A sling for this one as it is also doing house duty.

How many rounds do you shoot through it at a time before letting it cool down? I usually stop at 5 (barrel nice & warm but not burning hot) then cool then shoot 5.

I know lots of people say not to shoot a barrel hot as it can ruin accuracy. I don't plan on shooting it till it's glowing red. Just curious if you have any experience with your 336s.

How often do you clean your 336s?

I've shot around 300 rounds of LeverEvolution through it over the last 6 months. Accuracy and feeding all seem fine. Just curious.

Yeah ha, new toy ...

New toy today - a Cabellas scope designed to match LeverEvolution ammo in a lever rifle. I wanted to get one in 30-30 for my Marlin 336 as that rifle is dedicated to pointy 30-30's - but they didn't have any in stock

Instead I bought one in 308 that is supposed to go with a new Marlin 308 lever. I will pull my Nikon off the Savage 99 308 and install this to see how close the BDC reticule is to standard 308 Winchester field ammo? The original design is based around 165 grain boolits. I have some close to that for the Sav99. The cross hairs are for 100, 200 & 300 yards

Of the 901 feedback comments at Cabellas for these lever scopes, only about 40 are really negative - roughly 5%. The scope was on sale for $49 at the new big Cabellas outside Reno NV. You'all might want to check you local store to see what's on the clearance table? Could be a fun scope to fool with for cheap money

It's available in 35Rem, 444, 45LC, 338 and a bunch of other LeverEvo calibers. Just thought I'd pass along :D

Is the Deluxe worth the extra dough?

I'm getting close to plunking down some $$ on a new 336. I'm leaning toward the Stainless, but am curious about the Deluxe.

The Deluxe is almost $300 more than the Stainless and almost $400 more than the standard 336C.

What makes the Deluxe so special, and is it worth the extra $$?

Thanks for you input.

PR-NJ: Pretty much just aesthetics. If it's purdy to your eye, it might be worth it. I shell out the extra for the Cowboy models but every 336 I've owned - at least seven of em - shot well. If you need a "truck gun" a birch stock might be just the ticket. If'n stainless makes you salivate you'll soon forget the extra $ you spent. Better to get the one you want than live with the regret.

One of the things about my 336 that I love is that it's been a truck gun, desert canyon crawlin' gun, and woods bangin' gun, and still looked nearly brand new when I sold it (dang me, but I bought another).

Not afraid to take my Marlin *anywhere*.

(mostly posted to let y'all know I ain't dead yet)

Found this group just now.. trying to get some sight ideas for my 1957 336 straight stock. I have not had a chance to fire it cuz i received it in the mail with a broken stock. I found a factory second unfinished on ebay. My brother the wood worker is getting it all fixed up for me.
I would like to keep it without a scope but we will see. Ill post up when i get my new stock back next week. Here are some images.. before it was shipped and after with the broken stock.

Welcome Dog! Glad to have you on board. Sorry to hear about the stock.

For sights I like the factory opens for silhouette matches, fast to adjust and my eyes are just barely good enough to still use em.

My next choice would be for the Skinner Peep sights. They look good on a levergun - sleek and there is enough adjustment in them to for most applications.

If you're going way out there, 300+ I'd get a tang sight from Montana Vintage Arms. Marbles are good too but you'll run out of post quicker than the MVA sight.

Glad to have you aboard.

Dog, welcome to the club and THR.

Quite a find there. Thanks for pics and description.

I'm still a bit confused, though. Was it damaged before or during shipping?

Beautiful rifle, Doug. (Nice rug, too.)

Velojym, good to know you're still with us.

New 336, what mods?

I finally got a 336 today. If there is one thing this thread has taught me, it is that this weapon MUST be modified. So, gentlemen, where do I begin? Upgraded stock? XS scout rail? Skinner sights? So many choices,...

Nematocyst : I'm still a bit confused, though. Was it damaged before or during shipping?

I am also confused.. the box arrived in perfect condition. I told the guy about it.. he sent one sentence back. " broke in shipping, call canada post" Which he is supposed to do, but i did all the leg work and we will see if the insurance covers it.
The site i used is canadiangunnutz.com which is the largest canadian gun trading site, it also has feedback on sellers like ebay does.. He had all good feedback. So i dont know why he would try to pull a fast one for a coupe hundred bucks.. But..
Needless to say i wouldnt buy from that seller again.

First is sights that you are comfortable and capable with. Next would be the Wild West Trigger, which is probably the biggest bang for the buck mod available.

Not rifle specific but to REALLY maximize the performance of your 336 you need to reload. Everything from Subsonic to Wow! is possible. They are the definition of a practical rifle and in a capable rifleman's hands, there really isn't anything he can't do with one.

Everything else would be mission specific.
