The TK means Texan/Kmart. It is marked only with Marlin roll marks and doesn't mention Kmart except for the K. The Texan's were available from the 50's until 1983 or so.

In that pic it is wearing a Lyman 66A receiver sight and factory front carbine bead. I have since put a 4X scope on it to shoot 110 grain spitzers for varmints. I am cranking out 2700fps with those bullets. I only load one in the chamber and one in the tube for safety reasons. Don't want a chain fire.
 
It is GREAT to see excellent 336 enthusiasts joining the ranks of the THR 336 club. If we are lucky Georgeky will share some of his excellent country cooking and preserving methods with us over here at THR 336 club. Mouth watering! That sauerkraut recipe you posted over at Marlin Owners is AWESOME!

Jerry: most of my Marlins sport the original sights. If you shoot enough and your eyes are good they work great. For added precision the Skinner Peeps are excellent AND look the best of the peep sights available for the 336. I've had good luck with a Leupold Scout Scope on one of my 336's too.
 
For a long time I had a 4X scope on my 336, but some time ago I put a Lyman peep on it. It shoots great but my eyes aren't getting any younger. I have a 4X scope on my 39A and have given thought to putting a peep on it also. I see a lot of people talking good about the Williams peep but I really don't know the difference between it and the Lyman.
 
Help, fellow 336'ers

I bought what I was told was a Williams rear sight for my 336 on Friday, slapped it on then went to the range on Sunday. Well..... the only way I can get the rear sight low enough to be on @ 100yds is to completely remove the elevation tab, but with the Williams sight since it flips down, it won't stay up without that piece in there. Did I do something wrong, did I not buy the right sight?? I told the Gunshop what I wanted it for and that is what the Smith brought up for me, and it looks and fits correctly. I am just surprised. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After several gonna geti it and almost bought one I went ahead and picked one up today from another forum but locally.
Bought used at a more than fair price.
Look forward to learning more about the 336 variants. Will post pic later but it's nothing special. Just a non straight stock cross bolt saftey durdy thurdy. A real working gun to be used on deer, pigs, or whatever else needs shooting.

Also came with 2 boxes of core lokt 150s with a price tag of a wooping $8.48 a box. Wonder how long ago the price was that low?

I made contact with Williams Firesight. I have to get a taller front sight. I wanted the Williams Firesight front sight anyway. Might want to lok into it.

still need some technical help

is the factory marlin front bead sight shorter than the williams? That would be the only reason that I could see this being an issue.

Toby, I can't speak about the Williams sight - don't own one - but when I put my XS Ghost Rings on, they sent me a sight that was taller than the stock sight, but still too short.

I called them, and returned it. They sent me a new one (which I still haven't had time to sight in).

Point is, I suspect that may be related to your question.

:eek: I want in this Club!!!!!! Just bought my first 336A last night. $400 i thought was a decent price for a new gun. It came w/ a scope (Bushnell 3-9x40mm) bore sighted from the factory the guy tested it and just a few minor adjustments were needed. Has anyone had any problems w/ the Factory Scope?I love this gun. It looks soo nice will post a pic. soon. The only thing I guess was even remotely not up to par w/ me at least was the recoil pad. It looks cheap and of bad quality. Anybody have any suggestions? The guy at the store told me that the 336 takes more deer in KY than any other gun! It just feels good to own a little piece of history. I love it.

Sight

Well I dug out the ole Brownells catologue, and according to that the Williams Front sight is (and I am going from memory) approx .53 tall from the top of the barrel to the top of the bead. Now the factory Marlin measures out at .40 from the top of the barrel to the top of the bead. So there we have it, all I need to do is get a Williams front sight, and it's ready to kill stuff :D

Just found this thread and had to put my .02 in being a third generation 336 owner. Haven't hunted deer with anything else but. Started learning on my dad's in .35 rem. Mine is in 30-30. Great peice of equipment.

I am glad to hear you figured it out. I talked with the folks at Williams firesight and they determined exactly what I needed. Let us know how it shoots when you get it fixed.

the .30-30 surprised me today

i was sighting in my scope for deer season and just decided to see what i could do so i put a cardboard box out at 400 paces on our old loggin road then i waled back to my truck and went prone in the bed once i got the scope on i was popping holes in te box over and over again i fired 10 shots and got 9 on target at about 360 yards (my steps are 2.7 feet see what ya learn in school) there wasnt a group but i was happy
 
yeah but i had the scope set for 250 then i still had to hold over the taarget about 2 ft just to get on paper wasnt easy

it was alot easier with my enfield i had 6 out of 10 in 2 inches and the rest were on paper but i also had the sights set to 400 meters
 
KR, the 30-30 is more than a 100 yard round. If you learn to shoot your rifle it can make clean kills at 200. Even further with the new Hornady LE ammo. The old 30-30 has survived for a reason. It works.
 
Here is what my 336 CB 38-55 does at 100 yards with a 245 grain plain base cast bullet pushed by 30 grains of IMR 3031.

Oh I understand that. Folks have been so busy with the latest greatest thing they have forgotten that the 30-30 was the latest greatest thing once upon a time. I went through a 15 year spell where I hunted with only my flatter shooting bolt guns myself. Came back to the old rounds in lever guns 20+ years ago and haven't looked back.

I get the old 30-30 isn't any good from lots of my ole buddies who have to have a 7mm mag or larger to hunt deer with. Most of them have never even fired a lever gun.

Wasn't picking at you or anything.
 
Sight issues

Well it appears that my sight issues are fixed. After talking to the gunsmith I bought the rear sight from he told me that I needed to swing through the gunshop on our way out of town for hunting last Thursday and that he was pretty sure he would have something for it. So we stopped by I gave him my baby and he took it in back. About 20 minutes later he brought it up and said it should be good to go so out the door we went. We got to camp late Thursday so I would have to wait until Friday to test/sight the new set up. On Friday we did some scouting first thing till about noon/1 o'clock then went to find a place to sight her in. So we found a likely spot, paced off 100yds and hung a paper plate in a tree. First few shots weren't hitting the plate so we put another one up at about 60yds and realized that it was shooting low and too the right(yes the gunsmith didn't have the new front sight centered). So I raised it up. Well when trying to center the front bead, the bastard fell out :what: $%!&, now what! So after my partner dug around in his truck for a bit we end up kind of "crimping/rolling" the edge of the site a little bit with some channel locks to give it a tighter fit. So back to the 100yd plate. Boom, Boom, Boom 3 shots right where we want them. So now I know that my 30-30 is on(even though it is my backup gun) and is ready for use. The only thing that REALLY chaps me through all of this is that the smith put the first scratches on my baby when installing the front bead :( I know, I know it is a hunting rifle but this Marlin was 43yrs old and I put the first full box through it! It was BEAUTIFUL! with a gorgeous walnut stock with impressive tiger striping in the grain, perfect bluing........ Anyways, being a hunting rifle I knew it was bound to get scratched but I would have rathered it been me while hunting not a smith putting a front bead on. Oh well whining over. Moral of the story is that everything works correctly now.
