Newbie

Greetings - actually it's exciting to be called a newbie at my age. I got your invitation on Bersa Talk, DAdams, and thanks. From what I have read so far it looks like some good info on my new 642. Looking forward to participating.

Jim

JimNSC Welcome to the Club and glad you found your way over.

=====================================================================================================

fiVE, fiVe, <blurted with exuberence> I made my quarterly recruitment goal. :D

"I hope this puts me back in club good graces fore I feign I am guilty of.... derailment" <gasp >
I have spoken of and conjured Spirits (liquid).
Expounded on things not related to X42s. Such as (tools, lights, stun pens) :uhoh:
Kicked off the 642 postulate.
Reported on SWHC stock position.
Invented the Astrolabe.
Opened a route to the West.
Lusted publicly over my dearest M&P 340.
And certainly guilty of other heresy.

By the way the Fenix LED flashlight L1T v.20 arrived yesterday and it is very nice. I would recommend and will post a pic WITH a 642 of course.

SWHC was unjustifiably pummeled in the market on 10.30. I increased my position.

I'm stroking my 340 as I write this.

Why I like my 642:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's light weight.
It's never misfired.
I can draw it quickly.
It's always at my side.
I shoot it well at 7 yds.
Double taps are very easy
(especially with monogrips).
It slams 135 -158 grs into ...
Point, shoot ... bang ...

When the dog bites, when the bee stings.............I simply remember my favorite things..........Nema way to stay on task.

Spirit of the Season

Truly Fall is upon us here in the southeast US even though today on the Gulf Coast of FL it's in the mid 80's. and the east coast is enduring hopefully the last named storm.

Our nuclear summer is over and from now until May our tropical climate is what makes it enjoyable being here. Shorts are still de rigueur for a couple months and the Mika Pocket Holster is still as important as ever although as we move towards "Winter" concealment will become easier with sweaters and jackets necessary for 6 weeks. ;) Covered OWBs will be back in vogue and the heavier carrys will see some seasonal rotation action.

Enjoy.

Well, Mongo joined the Mika wagon last week. The old DiSantis Nemesis (2 years) is a bit too sticky around the 642.

Waiting expectantly for delivery.

Sniff... Sniff...

Just went back in memory lane. My posting on Page 6 of this thread #126 on July 17, 2005. One day after the wife and I picked up our pair of sequentially numbered 642s. What a day!!!:D

Speed strips -

Thanks to all who posted sources for purchasing. I appreciate and will check them.

We joined the club today!

We picked up our used but never fired 642 today- can't wait to try it out tomorrow!

I'll follow this link more closely for tips and tricks.....

shootemup - Welcome to the 642 Club. We are pleased you have joined us and are looking forward to hearing all about your first range trip.

Need to shoot!!!!

I bought my 642 a month ago and it still has never been fired. Lack of finances and time are the reasons. It has been carried everywhere I go though.
I have shot several revolvers and semi's in my day so if I have to use it I won't be totally out of my league.
Hopefully that will not happen, but Baton Rouge is not what it used to be.

The weather is great here now so maybe I will get to the range soon and put some rounds downrange.

Wow! I've been gone a while and find it amazing we're up to almost 5000 posts! The last time I posted here was post # 759!!!

Since my last post, I have put about 1200 rounds through my 642. Still no problems whatsoever. Great little gun. Just to update, I have switched from 135 Gold Dots to 125 non+p Nyclads due to rapid advance of arthritis in my right pinky finger. It sucks to get old!

I still carry in an Uncle Mike pocket holster and two speed strips, one on each side. The 642 is truly the "always" gun. The finish is considerably more worn than last time, but I just figure that gives it "character".

Keep the posts coming.

Confession:

I've been shooting my 642 and haven't been cleaning it.....It has been shooting just fine after 300 rounds.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I've been noticing posts about a Mika pocket holster and I gather folks are happy with them - regardless of the wait.;) I bought an Uncle Mike's "Sidekick" #3 at the same store I bought the 642. I like the holster but the gun seems to wallow around in it a bit since I've been carrying it daily.

Questions: Anybody out there have any experience with a comparable Uncle Mike's and also the Mika? I noticed on his web page he makes a square and a round one - which is the preferred for the 642?

In pocket the UM is zero problem and the 642 withdraws nicely but on those occasions I have to remove both to go inside a place that bans weapons (post office - court house) I have to be very careful to squeeze the holster to keep the 642 in it when removing it from my pocket. After removing it once I almost let it slide out once and could have dropped it. Maybe I'm being picky?:)

Comments? Hope I haven't confused you.

While I'm at it........

In the past two years I have carried a semi-automatic (Bersa .380) "ON OCCASION." I was very selective where and when I carried because of the difficulty I encountered concealing the weapon, especially in summer clothes. Well, the bad boys around here haven't gotten any nicer and I haven't gotten any younger. With arthritis worsening in my fingers it became difficult for me to put a round in the chamber of the .380.

I'm 66 with atrial fibrillation (heart) and the medications I have to take to control it fatigue me at times. It has gotten to the point that my ability to protect myself physically changed from a "fear no man" mentality in my 50's to a "if I can't get him/them within 3 swings it's over" mentality.

I said all that to say this. I finally wised up and bought this revolver that lends itself well to concealment and DAILY CARRY - not OCCASIONAL! My arthritis is not an issue operating the gun. My greatest pleasure since the purchase has been a feeling of security of knowing I can protect myself if necessary and physical strength doesn't have to be an issue.

Best thing I've done "gun wise." I'm tickled that the 642 is as popular and dependable as it seems to be. We've become inseparable friends and I don't leave home without it!

P.S. If you'll check the times on my last two posts you'll see my meds often deny a full night's sleep. :D

JIMNSC - I have used the UM's and much prefer the Mika. I don't really know what it is about UM products but I just am never happy with anything I try from them and have stopped using their products altogether. Having said that the Mika is probably not going to hold your gun any more securely outside your pocket than the UM's will. These pocket holsters are not designed as a retention holster at all. Their function is to protect the gun in your pocket and keep it in position for good presentation and draw from concealment. The Mika does this better than any other I have tried including several high end custom makes, but when removed from your pocket the gun will fall out easily if you are not careful. I have dropped mine a time or two. I prefer the round cut version. The Mika takes awhile to break in and at first will feel a little bulky and puffy. This goes away after a few weeks of use as the holster molds itself to the gun. Here's a link to my recent review:

...feeling of security of knowing I can protect myself...
We all know this feeling...hand in pocket...X42...Mika...158's...135's

E-Trode: I understand completely. Time and tides - where does it all go? I've been hammered lately myself, but luckily still find a moment or two to wring out the 642CT. Sometime after the 5,000th post, I'll be at 2,000 rounds through my little bundle of joy. I'm fortunate to have a membership at a gun club with an indoor range that's literally on my way home. Sometimes, I stop in for an extended range session, but more often I pop in, set up a target, shoot 15 rounds, (rounds on deck and my 2 speedloaders), reload pocket my 642 and head home...Great way to end the day....I hope for you that time is found to experience the thrill of sending rounds down range with your 642 - it's a grin festival... :)

BTW- Welcome to all new 642-Heads!!! It's nice to have you on board for the coming 5,000th post!
