The AR charging handle...why?

That is not to say a particular rifle is not a good service military rifle, just that the AR-15 has the ability to perform supreme accuracy performance.
It is my understanding that 'accurized' M14s are indeed accurate; they are reputed to be tough to keep accurate...bedding issues especially. The AR platform has no such issues.

This settles two of the major complaints and a third with the lack of cheap 7.62x39 blasting ammo. AR mags, AR style mag release and the modified selector.

After reading all of these different opinions, its easier to understand why all the generals and service branches had a hard time and took so long agreeing on a replacement for the AR. And we're just talking about the charging handle, not every part of a potential rifle and the functions/roles it has to fill.

Notwithstanding all the groans & gripes -- and utter initial roll-out stupidity on the part of the McNamara
"whizz kids/we-know better crowd" -- the M16 and it's follow-on stands as the longest continuously
serving battle* rifle in US military history.

* (very deliberate statement on my part)

It's actually pretty amazing how it's evolved and remains a state of the art battle implement.

Yes, the M14 can have excellent accuracy and yes, they can be somewhat difficult to maintain that accuracy level over time.
