The Atomic Frizzen

How many of you remember the Russ Hamm Atomic Frizzen? I got mine about
1973 and put it on a Thompson Center lock. It was sold for 5.00 and you got
a piece big enough to rivet onto your frizzen. You could use any old flint. Didn't have to be sharp, didn't even have to be a flint. Just about anything
would spark. Here's mine. There is no powder in the pan.

They say it's depleated uranium. Very radioactive and poision. This is a true
fact. The only thing I know is when I walk past people they have to reset
their watches.

Is this thing seriously made of Uranium? Looks like it throws one heck of a spark. Does it wear out?

Mykeal, you better check my frizzen in June. Yes it's uranium. It was on
the market I think in the early 80's. I have shot this rifle thousands of times.
Been shooting it since 1973. No the frizzen facing material does not wear out.

I guess the answer is don't breath when ya pull the trigger, then RUN away from where you were standing when you pulled the trigger.

I have friends that faced their frizzens with zirconium. Guaranteed to spark, shucks you could use plain old gravel to get the stuff to spark. Used it for hunting.

Actually, a well tuned lock with a good flint is amazingly reliable, and the flint can last for many a shot.

Yup, Russ is gone. Cannot recall what he passed away from, but given the preceeding posts I am rather morbidly curious at this point.

I recall these Atomic Frizzens well, and knew a feller that ran one on his Trade Gun. I gave him a LOT of space when ever he arrived with it in tow.
