The best pro-gun editorial in a newspaper, ever!

Long read but an outstanding piece....considering the indoctrination and ignorance that frequently comes out of Iowa State University, this renews my faith in the next generation.

The young man has real future ahead of him. I think I've met him once at the range in Ames.

I don't usually link to stuff but I was about to start a thread about this when I saw it had already been done. It's outstanding.

He makes valid points I put it on Facebook, recommend others doing the same, it's a rational explanation of everything in a nutshell.

Outstanding editorial, probably the best I have read on the subject of guns and gun control. Only possible downside is that it's a bit too long but certainly covered all the bases quite thoroughly. Well Done.

Gun people don’t trust anti-gun people because while they were crying about the victims of 9/11 or Aurora or Sandy Hook, and thanking God they weren’t there, I and many other gun people like me were crying because we weren’t there, and asked God why we couldn’t have been. Many of us wish we were on one of the 9/11 airplanes, and not because we have a death wish but because we have a life wish. Because when we sit in silence and the world’s distractions fall away, the thought creeps in: Could I have made a difference?

Here's a better quote, that really sums up a lot of what many of us feel.

Great read there. I sent the link to it around myself.

And yes ChaoSS, I do indeed wish I was on one of those 911 flights with my .38. The outcome would have definitely been different. :)

This is the best editorial on the subject I have read. I too sent the author a quick note of thanks and encouragement. I've sent to link to numerous friends as well.

Jesus Christ, that was good. I wanted to be strictly 'shop talk' on this site, but that was outstanding.
People who cherish the Second Amendment must stand together.

I liked it , but I agree with whoever said it was too long. A lot of people don't have the attention span to stay with it. However, the author claimed it would be his last article so I suppose he went all out.

Now if only my newspaper would publish my letters. I have written 5 or 6 since late December and have yet to see any of them published. Figured as much with a newspaper called "The Press Democrat".

Good article, but the author starts to sound a bit unhinged by the end, talking of civil war, how the next one will be worse than the first (the bloodiest in all of US history). He warns people to stop with the anti-gun propaganda or there will be blood . . . I think he should've left that part out. While the gun debate can be very acrimonious, no one's talking about taking up arms against their fellow citizens or a revolution outside some extremist groups.

He makes great points, but when he starts talking about civil war and the blood that'll result from it, he starts sounding like those hard core preppers who think the Gov't is about to break down their door and run Red Dawn fantasies in their heads.

You anti-gunners out there will lead us down a path you do not want to go down.

. . .

Your lack of understanding chances causing a civil war — a civil war that will be far worse, more acrimonious, more prolonged and more deadly than the last one.

. . . .

Anti-gunners may think the military could prevent such a thing — an argument often used against us pro-gunners — but with only a few million people in the military, and with the United States containing 300 million citizens spread across nearly four million square miles, many of whom are themselves veterans, well, military occupation of this country is impossible.

. . . .

And what happens when the civilian industries that support the military stop producing the supplies our military needs?

. . . .

And there will be no hope for resolution but through victory by force initiated by one side or the other, God help us, for we will not plow for those who didn’t beat their swords into plowshares.

These are what I'm talking about - this kind of talk reeks of some of the crazed chatter you hear on survivalist boards (threads like "Is the time coming to revolt?" and "Where to hide your guns when they come for them?" - answers to these threads are usually along the lines of "Yes" and "In your foxhole, bring on the helicopters!!").

Author would've done better to end the article sooner, after pointing out the hypocrisy, just end the article with something like "Until you acknowledge there are two sides to this debate, and that pro-gun people aren't moronic rednecks, that we love this country and want to preserve and cherish our Second Am freedoms as much as you want to preserve your First Am, there can be no end to this controversy" - instead he breaks down and shows some ugly colors from the fringe of the pro-gun side
