Obviously telling them they can't own a gun isn't working.
Our laws are becoming more numerous and more ridiculously verbose. With that combination, they have also become more selectively enforced. The very opposite of the purpose of having laws.

I'm at a loss as to what this proposed law will accomplish given the FACT that the ATF and DOJ do not currently prosecute persons lying on Form 4473.
There was a study done in 2010 and delivered to the DOJ in 2012 that studied Form 4473 enforcement and prosecution. The DOJ prosecuted 44 out of 72,000 Form 4473 violations.
That's 0.00061% - I think that may be an illustration of the phrase, "miniscule amount."
So, the new law will somehow result in a dramatic reduction in straw purchases because the penalty is larger and not the "chance" the DOJ will prosecute has gotten greater?
Please...let's just start enforcing the current laws instead of supporting some fantasy that a "new law" will help - it won't because it won't be enforced anymore than the current laws.
Will this stop the Attorney General from selling guns to Mexican drug cartels?
No, they sell guns to whoever they want. They don't need back ground checks, receipts for the tax dollars they used to purchase the guns or an accounting of any money they received from the buyers. For all we know the ATF agents who were involved may be living on that money. That sort of thing happens when the DOJ and the adm thumbs it's nose at congress and withholds evidence in an investigation. Eric Holder didn't win the high honor of being the only AG to be held in contempt of congress in the history of the US for no good reason.
Hold the DOJ accountable before any new laws are passed for the general public.
Oh yeah. He was our man in Afghanistan. Funny how that comes around.
