Yeah i saw that. I wonder how many of those pushing the law have ever heard a suppressed firearm discharge. Indoors it is still deafening, even subsonic.

The bill is just another stick they can poke in our eye. I suspect Menendez in particular is making a statement, rather than expecting a law to be passed successfully.

I find it interesting that there is no grandfather provision in this proposal for the 1.5 million (according to the article) registered silencers. All that is being proposed is a "buyback," which, if the recent New Zealand experience is any indication, would compensate only a fraction of the value.

This is really bad precedent for registered machine gun owners. With this mentality, they could lose everything overnight.

It's always the "usual suspects" among the legislators who rush to introduce such things without the slightest knowledge of what they're talking about. To them, if it has to do with guns, it's bad.

Remember that only two years ago, there was optimism that the Hearing Protection Act would deregulate suppressors entirely. Now, we've come full circle and a bill is being introduced to ban them entirely.

Just last week I had a customer tell me that he’d always wanted a silencer but he was holding out for the HPA to pass. I’m guessing he doesn’t follow the news real closely...

Most of mine are on form 1’s, If the only thing I cannot buy on this earth is more time, how much should I be compensated for that?

I imagine most wouldn’t care, just like the bumpstocks. They will only squeal when they take their over/under or 30-30. By then they will be too small of a group to matter. Like the bumpstock guy’s were.

They keep making them quieter all the time and they will kill more people in this country before lunch today than have been killed using legally obtained suppressors, used in an illegal manner in decades.

I don't advocate anyone doing anything illegal but how does the ATF catch most illegal or not taxed suppressors? Don't own one and till they are no longer taxed won't own one. Uncle sugar doesn't need to know every little thing I do. So I'll just not buy or make one, simple.

The VAST majority of victimless illegal activities go unnoticed/unfound. From smoking dope, to shooting illegal fireworks, to sharing media. I would argue there are a ton of shooters out there who through sheer ignorance of the law have illegal AOW’s or SBR/SBS. 922R violations are everywhere at the range. Etc.

Point is they don’t but when you are caught, especially in conjunction with doing some real crime your butt is in a sling.

I obsess over following the law yet chuckle every time I see a stocked Glock, forward hand grip on a pistol etc. etc. as I know these folks are not nefarious evil doers just folks ignorant of the law having fun.

and on that page we learn the following:

"As of 06/26/2019 text has not been received for S.1943 - A bill to regulate firearm silencers and firearm mufflers.

and that Senator Menendez's co-sponsors are Senator Feinstein, CA; Senatore Blumenthal, CT; and Senator Kaine, VA.

I would imagine it’s something that is added on as additional charges to other crimes.

As I said above most of mine are on form 1’s (aka homemade), the only time I have ever been asked about paper work was from people curious about the process, never a single time by LEO wanting to make sure they are legal.

That said, I always keep copies with me and would never even hint at suggesting breaking the law as the penalty for violation is the loss of all of your gun rights and then some.

There seems to be no account for proportionality when these "safety" and "common sense" gun control measures are introduced. There ought to be some minimum standard reasonable people subscribe to before they go all up in arms about wanting to regulate something into almost non existence or outright ban something.
The sheer number of law abiding people out there that are armed against the number of people that use their weapons to harm innocents or commit crime is so low, it ought to count for something, but it doesnt seem to. Neither does the number of people who use their weapon to defend their lives seem to matter to anyone in the anti crowd.
Nope, and the same could be said for suppressors, 50,000,000 people could own these and if 5 idiots go out and wreak havoc with em they want an outright ban.

That's already the case in the E.U. - electric cars will be required to produce at least 56dB when the car is moving at least 20 kph (~12 mph).

I think alot of legislation like this isnt neccessarily a wily way to spit in the eye of gun owners...so much as like almost being random attempts to appease the liberal whiners in the voting base. It makes the whiners feel they are being listened to and something is being done. The average liberal anti gun voter is so ignorant they really believe it and tnink theyve found an administration worthy of their grievances.

Since so many gun manufacturers are in Blue states, and stock in firearms companies skyrocket under Democrat leadership, I really wonder if much of it is just a game. But I dont deny that we are still getting spit on either way.
