This unfolded and unmistakable language is nowhere in the ATF definition of an AOW.

For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Any Other Weapon” means:

  • Any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive;
  • A pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell;
  • Weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading; and
  • Any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire.
Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition.

If it is classified as a "pistol", and has rifled bore(s), then it is exempt.

That particular ATF.gov page is incomplete and misleading on AOWs you have to read the discription page for pistol or revolver.
Elsewhere ATF opines on disguised firearms:
A cellphone, pen or cane gun that can be fired looking like a cellphone, pen, or cane is restricted as an AOW under NFA Title II.
A cellphone, pen, or cane gun that can be fired only if a handle has to be bent down to the shape of a conventional pistol is treated as a pistol under GCA Title I.

So you’re picking the last statement and ignoring the first... yup, makes sense...
The first? If you can conceal it and it shoots? So, if the first part is the only important part, then please explain how all pistols are not AOWs.

Personally I want my guns to look like guns for a number of reasons. This is really really stupid when there are perfectly functional 6 or 7 shot 380's that would fit in anyone's pocket or a belt holster.

I wouldn't buy one of these for $50 and if someone gave me one for free, I would trade it towards something useful. It's a stupid idea for so many different reasons.

Tough crowd... Anytime someone thinks outside the box they get roasted..

I give em props for at least trying something new.
I hope they sell a pile of them, I just won't be one of the buyers.
It falls into the "too embarrassing to own" category for me.

The word "Ideal" to describe this weapon leaves a lot to be desired! Perhaps ideal in the manufacturer's mind but not in mine.

Kinda makes me think that it would be a give away as to what it really is if you have this 'smart phone' on your belt but pull a phone out of your pocket to make/take a call.

Weight, width, length, height (open and closed)? It looks bigger than a lot of semi-auto .380s and 9mms and cell phones.

It seems to be a firearm that can get you into more trouble than out. Just another reason to make me feel some empathy for our Police. Now they have to worry about cell phones killing them? A total hazard waiting to happen and not one that will help in the fight for gun rights.

I actually think the curve is a good idea, just poorly executed. This though is just stupid on every level.

Just curious why you say this? I do not have one and not a Taurus Basher.. Perhaps you own one and can share some actual insight as to why "it is stupid on every level?".
That said, below is a unbiased review by Bruce at Pocket guns and Gear on the Curve. His review certainly does not match your comments.He does a lot of reviews on Pockets gun after actually shooting them and getting to know them.

You misread my post. I’m saying the curve is a good idea. The cell phone gun however is stupid.

My bad. Sorry. Hope you did enjoy the review of the curve.

I would not buy one regardless of if it was straight or curved because I don’t like the gun. I don’t like the mag release, the laser/light module, the trigger, or the lack of sights. These features ruin the gun to me, but let’s say you could buy an lc9s or a cw380 or something that has the features I like, and curved the grip, I would be very open to that. I hope that the Taurus curve hasn’t ruined the concept.

I would not buy one either, since I feel I already have the best small Pocket gun made. And do not want a curved grip. Do not need the design as both my 380 and Micro 9 carry so well without the need for one.
But back to the OP and the cell phone gun. It seems it would be a gun more for a predator than a CCW for defense. And again, how would a policeman react to cell phones now?
