Thanks for the photos Mp7, they were very interesting. When I was in Egypt I wanted to visit Turkey but sadly I could not pull the time together.

Believe me .. the awe is there. This is where knowledge transfer really started.
We germans still would be sitting in trees without Istanbul.
Overlooking this GIANT city with all it´s water, historic buildings
and the geography ... you know this is one of the few important places of civilization.

You hit the nail on the head with that. I really enjoyed Turkey. A very under appreciated country in my opinion.

Man, I never thought Id ever say this, but I kinda miss Turkey. I went to that museum and many others during my two and a half years at Incirlik Air base. Fascinating country and people.

I was at Incerlik Air Base also. I enjoyed my time there, except for the Turkish cats that ran around on top of the tents at night.

(just bumpin it - for alle those that weren´t online over Newyears. :) )

Merhaba, I was stationed at both Incirlik and Izmir. Izmir was a great assignment. They had a nurses college downtown, close to the Atlas Hotel, and after the 10pm "bedcheck" after which some of the ladies climbed the fence for a night out.

Years later, while TDY to Germany, I met an old Turkish flame in Frankfort close to the Barnhoff. It was at a Turkish Cafe and I had stopped there for a sandwich and to ask directions. Trivia.... John is Ercan in Turkish. I could hear some female calling Ercan, but ignorred it. What a shock that was.......
when she tapped me on the shoulder. I actually liked Turkey and learned to speak the language quite well.

I would definetly like to visit the museum.....
