I have a pile of 3rd Gen Autos. A 4013TSW and a 4040PD are part of it. I find them to be very comfortable to shoot at .40 S&W platforms. I used to have a 4006TSW, but sold that off. For a full-size .40 S&W, I prefer my Beretta 96s. The 4516 is a stainless-steel frame, the 4513 is aluminum.Nice obsession! I have a 4013, bought it new in the 1990’s.
The gun is snappy recoil wise, the alloy frame is lighter than the steel slide so it rocks a bit. Does the .45 version have the same alloy/steel combo or is it all steel?
Stay safe.
Strange, every 3rd Gen Auto I've shot has had a fantastic trigger. They're close to rivaling my Berettas.I was issued a 4006. I hated that thing. Worst trigger on any handgun I've ever used.
oooh yeah! took that once, it workedThey have a pill for that itch.
Hankering for a S&W 4516.

I have a pile of S&W .45 Autos, but a 4516 isn't part of it. Got a 645, 745, 4506-1 and three 4566s. But again, no compact 4516.
I need to remedy that issue.
Congratulations on 88! I’ll be happy with 78Does that itch every subside? I started my 88th trip around the sun earlier this week and I still have it. For some reason I have never had much interest in S&W semi-autos and only own one and it is an obsolete 22 rimfire. It is kind of ugly and the slide is hard to rack but it performs very close to my Ruger MK IV Target and I didn't have to do a trigger upgrade with it.
We will have a gunshow next weekend and I plan to attend. Might or might not find something I can't live without.
Stay healthy sir. Because the gun itch never goes away.Does that itch every subside? I started my 88th trip around the sun earlier this week and I still have it. I hear they make a cream too. Doesn't work on me, but it makes for great greasing lube for my Garands. They have a pill for that itch.
I was issued a 5906 back in 1991. Not a fan.Strange, every 3rd Gen Auto I've shot has had a fantastic trigger. They're close to rivaling my Berettas.

It is an all stainless steel gun. My GLOCK 30 weighs less than loaded than a 4516 empty. And the GLOCK 30 is a pussycat. Same with my GLOCK 29 in 10mm Auto shooting full power loads. A 4516 ain't gonna recoil. In 45 acp Be ready for some serious recoil, but, if you have that itch, scratch it!
Really! Really!I was issued a 5906 back in 1991. Not a fan.
Weighs as much as my boat anchor, unergonomic, slippery grip, mushy trigger. Worst thing was it jammed on me during a “pass or you are out” academy qual. I couldn’t get rid of it fast enough when the second chief I worked for OK’ed us using our own guns for duty.
Lots of guys love them, though.
Stay safe.
Mine was an awful experience. So bad I will never buy a S&W 59-series. Others may differ, and that is OK.Really! Really!
I think it Cool! 5906
I had one over a decade ago. I paid $200 for it and sold it for $300. It was okay. But it was a value series gun and other than the 909, they didn't appeal to me much.Don’t forget the 457. A good one too
