I have a 39A that was made in 1951 and has been in the gun safe since about 1980. I need to dig that thing out and clean it. Is there an active market for them? Or are they just good shooters?

Have to replace my Simmons 6-20x44 Mag, old vintage, as internal mechanisms are not holding at settings. What a time to learn yesterday when sighting in for Silhouette regional match. I thought something was wrong last Thursday night's match. I would like to buy a 24 X 40 scope but afraid will be to powerful when indoor at 50 feet. Considering a Weaver 40/44series, 6.5-20 X 44 or a Vortex scope. Leaning towards the Vortex. I had my heart set to buy a Savage Mark II, BV, and now have to use money for scope. Oh.well.

need some help
I am home healing from my appendix being taken out. I have a marlin 39 a 22 that was my fathers.When I was child my brother or I left it in the barn lot and the gun had lots of rust.It has been sence sanded down to the bare steel. Off and own I have been trying to fix this gun back up in to usable condition. It shoots great and pretty straight but I can not read the serial number to order parts and have no idea where the best place online is to get them from. Your help would be greatly needed so I hope to learn alot and get this gun up to usable condition. I think it might be a mountie.Mike

Just happened by one of my favorite gun shops and found a Marlin Model 39A with a S/N of B5xx. Wow. Some of the older ones seem to be harder and harder to find so I snapped it up with a price of $250....I couldn't say no.
Bore is EXCELLENT. Bluing on barrel is mostly gone and on the reciever it is about 70%. No rust - ANYWHERE. Seems to function fine although I have not shot it yet...but cycled some rounds thru it. Has a Williams rear peep sight. Wood is great with no cracks but did discover a small ding in the heel at the butt plate. Cannot tell if original butt plate, but is in good condition.
I will post some pictues. If I did my research correctly....I believe that the S/N dates this to 1945. Looks to be a great shooter!!

They had "Marlin" on them.

Marbles tang sights on Marlin 39A and Winchester 9422
This year I've fired well over 6,000 rounds of blazer ammo through these two rifles. First with Williams FP reciever peep sights on both rifles. I did very well with those sights. With my aging eyes it was a big improvement. Then I put Marbles standard tang sights on both rifles. I like them even better, because I can use an even smaller aperture, closer to my eye, and have a larger field of veiw around the front sight. My biggest concern with tang sights on these two guns was, when I take the guns apart for cleaning, I'm completely separating the front and rear sights from each other, and would they return to zero when I reassemble them? Well, I've done it several times, and they have always returned exactly to zero. Another thing I really like about the Marbles sights, is they're very nicely made of blued steel, and have a great old time look to them. That means a lot to me, especially on a traditional style old levergun. The guns, the ammo, and the sights, are all capable of better shooting than I am, but sometimes I can get one hole 5 shot groups at 25 yards. I think I usually average more like 5/8 to 3/4 inch and lately I've been getting an occasional flyer that ruins the group. But I only shoot on paper targets when I'm testing something. Most of my shooting is on steel resetting targets. Scott.

Actocs - Those sights look awesome on the Marlins! That Mountie has some stunning furniture on it too!
Are you using those for Cowboy Silhouette? If so how much elevation (clicks) difference is there between the Chickens and the Rams? And is there a difference between the longer and shorter barrels?

Finally got off my butt the other day and figured out that my 39a was made in 85. It was given to me for Christmas, in 85. Love that little rifle.
Thanks JustsayMo, Yeah that Mountie is a pleasure to hold and admire as well as shoot. Because of the wood, I feel like I have one of the finest examples of a Mountie that Marlin ever made. It looks equally as good on both sides too. No, I've never shot cowboy silhouette. It looks like it would be fun though. I mostly just shoot at home here, on my own private range. Yes, Yes, Yes to all of the above. I have one, 1952 vintage that dad bought for me when I was in the second grade. I have a Lyman receiver sight mounted and that thing will shoot as good or better than a lot of newer rifles. No market for this one though, no one could affordd it.

Rebounding Hammer 39A
Greetings: I have a newer model 39A that came equipped with the reviled rebounding hammer. I took it to a gunsmith who eliminated the rebounding action. However, the trigger can still be placed in the half-cocked position. From this position pulling the trigger can cause gun to discharge...but not always. This seems unsafe to me as there have been a couple times I didn't realize the trigger was in the half-cocked position. My question is: when eliminating the rebounding action is it typical (and possible?) to remove the ability of the trigger to be half-cocked? Thank you. Kevin
