Now you're insulting me and attacking me personally by suggesting I'm being intentionally mendacious.

No - I am not attacking you personally. I don't appreciate your assertions that NFA owners in this state own illegal machine guns. I am a law abiding citizen and I don't appreciate you calling me a criminal.

In addition to being sanctimonious, you're being melodramatic. I didn't say you were a criminal.

I just said it's counterproductive and not helpful to explain the Class 3 firearms/NFA titling process to people like Jim Brochin.

Get over yourself.

Let me refer to your prior post:

Fully automatic weapons are ALREADY illegal in MD and everywhere else in
the US under the National Firearms Act of 1934.

I suppose since I own transferable fully automatic weapons, by the statement that you made above ("Fully automatic weapons are ALREADY illegal in MD and everywhere else in the US under the National Firearms Act of 1934. "), I can pretty much assume you are calling me a criminal and my rights don't matter. I got thrown under the bus once in 1986 and I refuse to let it happen again.

Not only is it not true, your hubris and condescending attitude are pretty clear. I really, really wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt Sebastian, but I see otherwise.

Come the hell on.

You know and I know that the NFA provides for a certain class of people that get to own Class 3 firearms.

The fact that I'm not bothering to point that complicated aspect of firearms law (and one that might make getting our point across to people like Brochin quite difficult) out in a brief email to a State Senator who frankly has other things to worry about and needs his info in a concise, cogent manner does NOT mean I'm calling you a criminal.

If you're going to be that damned thin skinned, I don't think politics is for you. Grow up. If you're that fragile, pretty much anything I say is going to seem condescending to you, so forgive me if I don't cry you a river.

Nobody's calling you a criminal; I'm just not bothering to muddy the waters with Brochin and am keeping it pragmatic and simple. This shouldn't be controversial unless you're looking to pick a fight.

Can the friendly fire, and send an email to an on the fence legislator or something. The turd polishing is getting silly.

Sebastian-

I am totally not looking to pick a fight. I do want to say this - I have read your blog in the past and I DO appreciate what you are trying to do for the community. We might differ on other subjects, but we are together on the important issue.

Trust me - my skin is thick. I had to deal with the AP ban in 1994, trigger locks, smart guns, high caps mags, the federal AWB, FOPA amendments in 86 and the last four years of fighting the state level AWB. Forgive me if my patience with this state is growing thin.

While I see what you are trying to do, I suppose this subject hits a big nerve with me. "Class of people?" This isn't an us-versus-them issue - I honestly believe that law abiding citizens should be able to own firearms and be able to carry. I understand NFA is complicated, but the law is the law. I would rather you NOT say something that is not factual versus polishing the "truth." That kind of logic does not help our cause, NFA or otherwise.

And yes, I have emailed, written and called Brochins office, as I did donate and support John Gianetti, Nancy Jacobs, Norm Stone, etc.

If you think I want you to cry me a river, you are dead wrong.

Can you guys take this discussion elsewhere please.

Lets focus on the AWB.

Has everyone sent out new e-mail's/letters etc to the Senate Judicial Members including info about the recent ruling declaring DC's ban UNCONSTITUTIONAL?

This is the best thing since sliced bread kids and perfect timing.

This is just the kind of thing that Brochin needs to firm up his position on our side so we can put this bill to bed.

Inflamatory:

The word,"automatic", raises a red flag whenever gun control advocates are around. Let's keep a low profile about fully autos. No more is necessary than to point out that the firearms that have been named in gun bans are not automatic weapons without telling everyone that you can apply for permits to purchase and own fully autos.:banghead:

My letter to Senator Frosh

Wow this guy got me fired up! This after spending the day at the range exercising my rights under the Constitution (which he seems to think is wrong)!:fire: :cuss: :banghead:

Dear Senator Frosh,
I just finished watching WBAL Channel 11's broadcast regarding concealed carry laws in Maryland. In that broadcast, you are filmed stating the "average citizen" is wrong about the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution guaranteeing the right to possess a firearm.

As a Maryland resident, I am outraged at your disdain for the Bill Of Rights. As you are probably well aware of by now, The Washington DC Appellate Court has declared the firearms ban in the District as being unconstitutional. The people are speaking, Senator, and they are speaking loudly: we want the means to protect ourselves and our loved ones. As has been proven in court cases many times over, the responsibility of the police to guarantee an individuals safety does not exist. If your official standing is that the Constitution does not guarantee the individuals right to keep and bear arms, I strongly suggest to you taking a refresher course regarding the Constitutional law.

In states with conceal-carry laws, crime is actually lower, according to FBI statistics. Pennsylvania, Virginia, and many other states have a shall issue statute with regards to issuing permits, and their crime rates are significantly lower than those in Maryland.

Also, the slanderous comment regarding citizens that possess so-called "Assault Weapons" as being "nuts"? How did you come to the conclusion that individuals wishing to obtain these weapons are nuts? I don't recall insulting ones constituency as the best means of garnering votes.

To sum up my feelings regarding your stance regarding the citizens of Maryland and their desire to protect themselves (a right, by the way, guaranteed to them by the Constitution), I am appalled, mortified, and disgusted you were elected as a representative of these fine people. Be advised your comments will be remembered, especially around voting time.

Feel free to respond to me at the above address if you are so inclined.

Will

D.C. Gun Ban

I was elated to learn that the court overturned the DC weapons ban but nothing has changed. Before everyone breaks out the champayne let's wait and see how the appeal turns out. If the lower court's decision is overturned our position will be that much more difficult.

Further: Senator Frosh is nobody's favourite but getting down in the gutter and exchanging insults with him will only make us look silly. Frosh was trying to prove his point by provoking an inflamatory response when he hurled his invective at us. Don't take the bait.

Amazed and inspired

I just spent the last hour reading about 1/2 of the posts in this thread. Once I started I couldn't stop. You folks are my heroes. If this fight ever comes to Minnesota, we'll take both inspiration and advise from the lot of you.

I can't thank you enough.

Wait till we're victorious before you emulate us :p

Any video?

Is there any way to access videotape of the newscast? I'd like to see it before drafting my own letter to Frosh.

Michael

+1. For some reason, I can never get those embedded video players to load for me. Didn't see what he said, but no doubt it was precious.

Anyone able to/want to type it up on here for those of us who have trouble seeing it? Just a thought.

Kingpin-

I will give it a quick summary.

The piece was on the CCW legislation to start with. Basically the article showed some footage of Suzanna Hupp, who is actually a very good speaker and talked about how she felt helpless as her family was murdered and why honest people should be able to carry in the state.

Next, they cut to Frosh who says:

1) People do not need concealed carry
2) The second amendment is a collective right for the military
3) People who want to own assault weapons "are nuts".

The article ends with Stoval saying that there was pretty much no chance of this passing this year (CCW).

I wish you could see the piece - Frosh is a lunatic.

I was hoping someone here might be able to do a write-up of the CCW hearing like there was after the AWB hearing recently..I'm curious to know how Mrs. Hupp's testimony went over, and what sort of opposition was mounted.

I really gotta start finding a way to these meetings...

Thanks for the summary, DC - Frosh is a piece of work.

Lots of good info thats easy to find...particularly reps e-mail addresses etc.

Its getting a lot more traffic recently and folks are contributing tons of good info etc.

CCW

Does anyone really think that even if the CCW Bills get passed by the Senate or Legislature that Gov. O'Malley will sign the bill? Our big problem is with the attitude of the State Police who are headed by an O'Malley partisan, and a States Attorney who has nothing but scorn for our position.:barf:

CCW Again

Someone should remind the Anti gun politicians that A stronger argument for concealed carry is that both N.Y. and Mass. do issue CCWs. Even Sen. Schumer pointed out on the O'Reilley show that a NYC resident could obtain a CCW permit although the process takes 7 months or more. Outside NYC many citizens have obtained CCWs after obtaining approval from their local police or sheriff. Yes, there are exceptions but for the most part residents can get a CCW permit.

In Mass. you can also obtain a CCW permit by applying to the local police. I don't want to see Draconian gun laws established in MD like the ones in NY or Mass. but give the Devils their Due. It is easier to get a CCW in NY or Mass than here. Someone should bring that up at gun bill hearings.

correction

Sorry, It was the HANNITY AND COLMES show that the Sen from NY pointed out that you could get a CCW permit in NY. :uhoh:

p.s. Nobody said anything about quitting.
