I didn't see this posted anywhere else. My apologies if it's a duplicate. Mods, I hope this is gun-related enough. Feel free to delete it if it's not.

A US Army soldier is facing charges for giving information to Al Qaida via the internet. Read the article if you're interested. Toward the end of the article, there's the following tidbit (emphasis mine):
I was going to ask why the media always puts nasty little barbs like this into their articles, but I already know why. :fire:

Imagine how much heat they'd take if they put irrelevant narky comments about any other advocacy group:
They'd have their butts handed to them before they could blink...

How did you come to the conclusion the accused is a commissioned officer (lieutenant)?

Sorry about that. I was writing my comments from memory, and mis-remembered. I'll fix the original post.

If they thought they could get away with it most of the press would regularly refer to any gun owner as "the psycho" or "the would-be killer"

Kind of like how the leftist extremists in the press would refer to President Bush as "the smirking chimp" if they could.

So what makes him a gun rights advocate?

This guy's only other claim to fame was having been hassled for legally carrying a long gun near a school somewhere in the Puget Sound area (~5 years ago, IIRC). He became a "gun rights activist" only as part of his after-the-fact, but successful defense.

the guy is a NG reservist

Believe he's a specialist (E-4); interestingly enough, he's also a college grad. He was apparently sort of a wannable Al Qaida spy; even the local Muslim community he tried to associate with thought that he was pretty strange and tried to distance themselves from him.

Strangely, in all the coverage I've seen in the local (Seattle and Everett) papers, I missed any emphasis about him being a "gun rights advocate." The TV news folks and a couple articles pointed out that he was somewhat of a gun fanatic, but didn't seem to make as big an issue out of it as one might expect (of course, outside of King County here and one pocket of my county, this is a pretty conservative state where attacking gun rights is not always a good thing).

It reminds me of the pathetic digs at the end of Anchorman. That ruined the entire movie for me, not that Will Farrell was awesome but...

Sorry, I'm still pissed about it. :fire:
