It's not so much that I don't understand what the Brady Campaign is all about. I do. I'd imagine that I might feel the same as Sarah Brady or Carolyn McCarthy if my family had been killed or severely injured, and I have a certain empathy with their positions even as I disagree with them entirely.

But I draw the line at outright lying. I submit that most justification for gun control is based on the "Big Lie" political model, but this takes it to a new level.

From the Brady Campaign website:

The Brady Campaign filed a complaint in federal court asking the court to strike down a last-minute Bush Administration rule change that allows concealed, loaded firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges.

OK so far. They're entitled to do that, even if we gun owners totally disagree with them. No, the whopper is in the next paragraph:

The suit was filed on behalf of the Brady Campaign and its members, including school teachers in the New York and Washington, D.C. areas who are canceling or curtailing school trips to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty and the National Mall in Washington, D.C due to the Bush Administration's rule change.

I can safely say that the only reason that they might be concerned about people having guns on Ellis Island or on the National Mall is because Mrs. Brady and her friends have lied to them.

The new rule asserts that the national parks will now conform to the gun laws of the state that they are in. As there is no way to get to Ellis Island without going through New York City or New Jersey, both with nearly impossible-to-get CCW permits and no reciprocity, not to mention the fact that Washington, DC does not allow concealed carry under any circumstances, bringing Ellis Island and the National Mall up as examples is a bright, shining lie, and a despicable one at that.

Some of my friends think that I take gun ownership too seriously, that people are not "out to get me". It's about the time that I start to believe that when I see stuff like this. It is upon such monumental lies that law is made.

It's enough to make my head hurt. How do you fight lies, innuendos, and basic, fundamental dishonesty?

I think that's called "sales puffing" in the business. All lobby groups do that to some extent or another. Can you prove that no schoolteacher has cancelled trips for that reason? No. It's stupid and flouts reason, I agree.

Sure you can. Request copies of the authorizations for travel, for the bus and driver that have been acted upon by the administration. Then, request a copy of the notification to X facility that the trip has been cancelled based on X reason. If it involves a school, there will be a record. If there is no record, there never was a planned trip. As a former school administrator, trust me, I know what I'm saying. No record, no trip. No record, pure BS.

Please forgive my ire, Im 60 y/0 and temporarily disabled and more cranky than usual with a lot of time on my hands to think about things. These anti's really tick me off. Spend a lot of time trying to educate them and make them see the need to focus on the root cause of our sociatal problems not the outcomes.

The answer not in banning guns, but in crime control, use a gun in a crime go jail, period. identifieing mental defectives, like the one that shot her husband- and treating or placing them - mental health has a low priority in most state budgets- hence most programs and facilities that used to exist are now closed in VA, and most states, hence, columbine, virginia tech, etc. The sings were all there, they were ignored

And my closing point to all is PARENTS MUST BE PARENTS, AND GRANDPARENTS MUST BE GRAND PARENTS(YES i AM SHOUTING) pay attention, the signs were all there, and were ignored.You need to pass a test to get a license to drive a car, have a gun, or practice your profession, but any pair of morons can have and raise a kid, that grows up without attention to his needs and does not get the help they need, so he is out on his own without guidence or attention. Some are poor, some are privildged, all are in need of love and attention to make them whole functioning citizens. I have been and will be a escort on all my grand kids trips and if the school cancels for this reason the brown stuff will hit the blades.

If there is a rule/law change that grants more 'freedom' to gun owners, there's an anti group out there who will oppose it.

OK. Go ahead and do all that and let us know what you find. If you discover that it is a blatant lie then tell us and we'll all email the Brady Campaign and tell them tsk tsk.
I'm sure they'll immediately issue a retraction. Heck, they might even join the NRA.

Simple corollary. If they feel unsafe in national parks because of this rule, they must really feel unsafe about the other 41 states that have some type of provision for concealed carry because every city, every nook, every corner might have a citizen who is carrying.

They also can't go to the other 9 states because criminals might carry. All 50 have cops that carry. Overseas you have military and criminals that carry.

Maybe this is a good thing, we can get Sarah Brady and all her idiot followers to stay home forever so they don't ever run into the problem of being around people that might have guns.

I wonder if she tells cops to disarm before coming into her house.

I would love to pull her over on a traffic stop and just stand there by her window and park my holstered sidearm next to her face as I talk to her about the weather... the politics of the day... Yahtzee strategies... and wiggle around once in a while so the gun shakes next to her face.

It's called desensitization therapy and it works! She might end up being used to guns and loving us once again. Woohoo!
