Well I noticed a whole bunch of "which is the best AR", "I'm building a AR what to use" threads. While I know there is much to debate on which brand is better then the other. I would like to know what part on the AR has the most effect on accuracy and reliability? Lower assembly, upper assembly, barrel? What would the great minds of THR.org say has the greatest affect on the overall performance of an AR-15, or perhaps a list of greatest to least effect.

I was trying to say that no single part is responsible for accuracy or reliability; its all about how many parts work together, like notes in a chord.

If you can find one, buy a lower receiver from anyone but Vulcan/Hesse. After that, order a kit in whatever configuration you like from www.del-ton.com
I like chrome lined barrels on working guns, stainless heavy barrels on competition guns.
Good magazines are a must. They are impossible to find right now, but I really like Magpul Pmags. I also have a bunch of C Products mags.
A good trigger is important for accuracy. I use stock parts and send them to Bill at www.triggerwork.net He does great work fast.

For accuracy, the barrel.
For reliability, the heart and soul of the AR-15 is the bolt carrier group. For serious use, you need a properly staked gas key, and a shot peened bolt. It's also helpful to have a full auto carrier, or at least one with a fully shrouded firing pin. If you've got a carbine gas system, a black extractor insert and 5 coil spring is a must. And an O-ring if the spring isn't all that strong. For middy and rifle gas systems, the stronger spring won't hurt a thing.
Best BCGs out there are Colt, BCM, and LMT. S&W uses LMT BCGs.
Oh, and with a carbine stock, you want an H or H2 buffer. A2 stock, the standard rifle buffer is fine.

I haven't heard of a Match bolt for an AR and most barrels are more than the average person needs. Get a hand-me-down match barrel for pennies as a first upgrade, maybe?
I've shot out to 400 yards with a 14.5" at an Appleseed and landed everything on a 19" wide silouette. And, that's actually rather poor shooting compared to what's others are capable of.

I would say this; if you don't get the right extractor parts, and a good staked gas key, all else is pointless. but if it were a single shot, because the above stuff busted, i would go with a good made bbl, 1/8 twist, chrome lined.

Staying legal? Forget that.
If you're going to stay legal, you best sell your AR right now, and get a lever-action.
Then, before that's banned, you better sell that and get yourself an Air-Rifle.
Then maybe a sling-shot for when they eventually take your pellet-gun away, as well.
Grow a pair, or sell your guns to someone who has some.

Oh, and magazines are the most important because they're the most prone to problems.
Without that magazine your fancy AR will only be a really accurate single-shot.

Alright people. Thank you for letting me know that I hold alot of the keys of accuracy and what have you, but I'm sorry C. Hathcock might even have trouble with a barrle that has had a file ramed through it. Also the shooter issue doesn't need to be brought up 5 times, one time is just fine. Lets keep try to keep it on the gun from now on.

You need alot of ammo to be reliable and accurate
Proper lubrication of the rifle goes a long way for accuracy.
Good QC on your bolt group makes for a more reliable weapon.
The rifle is inherently accurate, the shooter may be the biggest variable.
Good magazines are a must.
Make sure you keep all files our of your barrel; clean carefully.
