The movie was Lake Placid.The Sheriffs' big gun was what?

I've tried search six ways from Sunday & haven't found it.

IIRC it was a folding stocked breech loading single shot w/a bore about 2-2.5 inches & shot a HE projectile.

Was it just a "movie gun" or something real?

Been a long time since i've seen it, but believe it was just a 37 mm flare launcher made to look like a gun.

Sounds like a M79. The M79 was a Viet Nam era 40mm grenage laucher aka the bloop tube. It was named that because that is the shound it makes when fired. This was upgraded to the M203 which allowed the 40mm capability without impacting squad firepower.

Trying to remember name, but no luck. Remember the movie though. Gun looked like an M-79, Fired a40mm projectile. We called them "Thumpers" or "Bloopers"
