The perfect handgun grip?

As I look back on all the handguns I have owned, revolver and auto, one stands out for me as it came "out of the box" without modification or desire to change except perhaps for personal cosmetic preferemce.

And I say this as a dedicated double action S&W revolver shooter: It's the Colt 1911.

It is the perfect fit.

For me it is very specifically a 1911 with a Hogue or Pachmayr finger groove grip. The finger grooves gives me a little extra recoil control with a little less grip texture. The little extra grip circumference is perfect for my long hands.

I have been using the Hogues on my 1911's for several years now.

I have heard all my life the saying, "Time changes things" and it certainly does. It wasn't too many years ago that you couldn't give me set of rubber grips. Now many of my handguns wear either Hogue or Pachmayer rubber grips. They are not exactly good looking but I am at the point where I will happily replace good to beautiful looking grips for ones that are much easier to use. One of my "things" was making grips for my handguns from fancy wood. Now almost all of those reside in a box.

My personal test of how a pistol fits; squeeze it as tightly as possible; does it still feel good?
Agree that 1911s feel great; hard to imagine it was designed not long after the Mauser 'broom. "Gee, that feels great in the hand", said no one, ever, about that puppy.
Autos, the 1911/BHP, with an honorable mention for the CZ 75.
Revolvers, a round butt K frame, with a Tyler T-grip.
I'll throw in a real wild card; the Smith BG2.0 feels stupid good in my hand, literally a perfect fit, which is really helpful in a small, energetic pistol.
And, the Vertec grip on an M9/92. The original grip was like the wrong end of a (non-torpedo!) Louisville Slugger. The Vertec was a stab at making the M9 feel more like a 1911. Close, but no cigar.

Best Grip period, Taurus TX22. I can't think of a single thing I would change on it.
Good to know I am not alone.

I like 1911's CZ75, and Sig P320s...but the best feeling grip in my hand is the TX22. I like it enough that even though I keep saying to myself "you don't need another 9mm pistol" for years, I still bought a GX2 when it released...since they use the same grip style as the TX22.

I have a GX4 TORO and it's pretty great, but I wish they had taken and exactly duplicated the TX22. I can tolerate most grip shapes/angles as long as they aren't just (IMHO) insanely rough textured. That's either a deal killer or the gun has to be cheap enough that I don't worry about loss of value when I mod it. The first gun I had with grips I just totally hated was my first S&W 686 with the "cheese grater" grips. I swapped those grips out for an aftermarket pair almost immediately. A friend bought the cheese graters from me and ended up sanding the checkering down on them. He still has them on his 686 40+ years later.
