When I was a newbie to .308 and .223 rifle cartridge reloading, I spent a lot of time at The Riflemans Journal website. I tell you, it is a humbling experience reading what benchrest shooters do to attain their level of accuracy!

Since last year, I have linked various articles (especially detailed and comprehensive primer testing articles) from that site but decided that it may help new reloaders to have some of the pertinent articles consolidated on this thread.

I will start with Lead-Free Primer Evaluation article from October 2011 - http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2011/10/primers-lead-free-primer-evaluation.html

I have been using PMC lead-free SP primers for a couple of years and Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC, a Department of Defense Information Analysis Center) did an interesting study of blast pressure variations of lead primers.

Most of our regular readers are familiar with my previous work on primers with Bob Jensen (if you aren't go to the Index and look up the Primer section). What many of you may not know is that there is a lead-free version of the well known Russian primers. Recently, we provided some samples of these to researchers at the US Air Force Academy who prepared a very interesting test and article documenting their findings. I won't attempt to summarize them for you, but if you're interested, the complete article, published by the Department of Defense's Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center can be read by clicking this link.
