Like most of my black powder pieces it shoots better than my ability to hold it. I shoot both bp and smokeless cartridges.

Lipsey's is really gouging people with that $1269 price. Tooele's is quite a bit more reasonable @ $899. I won't be paying near that much if I wanted another ROA.

drobs, thanks for posting the links.
Well the prices sure are high but I guess if a fellow wanted one bad enough.... Wonder if they are new or cleaned up used ones.
Makes the gunbroker prices seem like a bargain.

Maybe not the five and half inch. I did notice that the ad stated that said revolvers may not be in stock.

Have any of your worn out your Treso nipples?

Today I shot a cowboy action match with a pair of ROAs and experienced several failures to fire on the first hit. This is the first time I have had any failures with this pair of ROAs because they have Treso nipples and I was using Remington #10 caps, seating the caps all the way onto the nipple before shooting the stage. The Treso nipples on this pair of guns must be 10-12 years old, hard to estimate how many thousands of shots fired with each nipple in competition and practice.

I will replace the nipples before the next match, so this is a curiosity question; just wondering if any of you have worn out a set of after market nipples?

Main spring loose? check profile of cones for smashing. I use a punch piece of card stock to check for hammer impressions.

Are the nipples clogged? Poke a wire through them to make sure.

The ROA main spring is a coil secured on a strut, I don't see any way it can come loose.
The tops of the nipples do not look peened or damaged. I will measure their height with a micrometer when I remove them.

I'm curious how you use the card stock...do you cut a little piece to fit on the nipple?

The caps were not igniting in the first place so a clogged nipple would be irrelevant to the problem I was having. But I always look for sunlight through the nipples before loading for the next stage during every match, and if I don't see sunlight I do use a wire vent pick.

I was shooting these guns two-handed in this particular match; gripping and triggering with the right hand, cocking the hammer with my left thumb. I'm beginning to think that in trying for speed I was not letting the hammer come to full cock before pulling the trigger. I did not think of that when posting my question about wearing out nipples. So I will investigate that possibility.

Thanks to both of you for forcing me to clarify the problem; I would not have considered the possibility that my technique is the cause.

Still, if anyone has experience with wearing out Ampco/Treso nipples, I would love to hear about it.

I like your folding loading stand! Oh, and your pistola too!

Keep thinking I should get my stainless finished matte so it's less reflective.

Thanks. I really like the OA with the semi-gloss SS finish, very handsome but not gaudy.

Certainly nice to look at but wouldn't do me any favors as a primary weapon while hunting, which I'd like to try one day, hence wanting to give it a matte SS finish like my old AMT Hardballer and Automag II
