Our local toy store got in a stainless ROA and I took my blued model in and made a trade. Looks to be unfired. Got scrimshawed grip panels. Was that a Ruger option? Aftermarket?
Please reconsider. I have examined quite a few stainless ROAs with deeply pitted bores and chambers. Cleaning really doesn’t take that long.
I hope to be added to the club muster! Remington New Army 1858 Ruger Old Army marked “200th Year of American Liberty” Shown with Howell conversion cylinder and Belt Mountain quick change And a whole lotta fun
I have a friend who simply removes the grips and stuffs it in the dishwasher. When his wife isn't looking, obviously.
Exactly what I was thinking. I picked up a stainless ROA that had a severely pitted bore, especially at the forcing cone, for cheap. Rest of the gun was in fine shape. Someone probably thought he didn't have to worry about it because it was stainless, and forgot to clean it. I got a replacement barrel from Clements, one of his pulls from the custom work he does. Gary Barnes fitted it for me. Great gun, and gets cleaned right away.
I see Belt Mountain tried to obsolete my "ClemBert pin" with their quick change contraption....LOL. Looks good though.
Clearly my lack of knowledge of your pin betrays my ignorance and as a renowned gunsmith my opinion pales in comparison But I have always been of a mind my own expertise should stand on its own without promotion by disparaging another kind sir … Feel free if you are so inclined to call my wife fat or my children slow witted but in all decency I implore you not to refer to my gun, or it’s assembled parts as a “contraption” I usually do not offer in polite society to offer my opinion on manners, but I should hope an assemblage of gentleman spoken of as “ The High Road” might understand By all means I value everyone’s right to their opinion and it’s full 2 cents worth If insulting remarks about my Ruger Old Army are the price of admission to this club then I regretfully and respectfully withdraw my request to muster in … Thank you all the same kind sir
Moose, I think you read something into ClemBert's post that wasn't there. To me it sounded more "self aggrandizing" than any slight towards you. I happen to know Mr. ClemBert personally and don't believe he had any underlying meaning. Besides, he's one of the members that "liked" your post !! Lol!! Mike
Just before Christmas I traded a blue ROA for a stainless. Christmas afternoon was nice enough to get out the camera and shoot it and video of the event. My intentions were to put up a YouTube video yet Christmas day. But I ran into problems. The weather and life got in the way and I didn't get back to the project until a few days ago. I don't have it running 100% reliable but will try other caps, etc. Anyway, here's the video.
I just got it April ‘22, 1999 ROA. My first foray into cap and ball (or any BP for that matter). Fun stuff so far!! I got a pair of factory wood grips recently, but the fit leaves a bit to be desired…
