I tried the Leave your BP revolver loaded test. I loaded my ROA with 777 and .457 balls, capped it up and let it sit for 30 days in a holster. When I went to test it the caps were corroded and there was rust on the base pin. To recover, I put WD-40 on the base pin and removed the base pin, the cylinder, and the nipples (capped) from the cylinder. After removing the old caps, I back filled the cylinder with 4f Goex and replaced the cleaned nipples with 5 new caps and one of the old caps. Four of the six went off as they should have, one was a squib round which cleared the barrel but missed the target and one - the recycled corroded cap - fired full house on the second try.
I tried this test on several guns and the ROA did the best of the BP percussion.
Love it as I do, my ROA will never be my loaded by the bed - go to gun.
PS: where I live we get 100 inches of rain per year and the air is very moist.
PSS: Why it wouldn't count - Maybe it's not as reliable as the other ROAs?
Newcomer to THR here, and I'm eager to join the ROA club; qualified X4.
But I can't figure out how to post photos. The FAQ says I can go to my controls and click on the "Pictures and Albums" link, but I can find no such link.
I use Photobucket which is a lot easier. But since you asked.....
First you have to be in Post Reply to Topic. (The Blue Button, located bottom left). If you look at my attached image it will show show Menu Bar that appears in that mode. Can you see the paper clip above, on the right next to the white smiley face?.
If you pass your cursor over the clip it will say: Attachments. You click it another pop up menu opens and it will allow you to upload an image from your computer and post it as an attachment.
The pair of 5 1/2" guns were originally blue (well, black to be honest). I antiqued them using Longshot Logan's technique; remove the color, apply Birchwood Casey's Plum Brown barrel finish, then worked the rust down with 4/0 steel wool to get the finish you see.
Both pair have rammer extensions made from a brass cleaning jag. And yes, I am a sucker for Sambar Stag grips.
I honestly don't deserve membership, but I can't resist posting my $45 (No, that's not a mistake) Ruger.
Came with Cardboard box and papers.
I actually bought 2 of them for $500. Traded the worse off one for a Colt AR upper and a couple acessories.
Sold em and ended up with $45 in the one I kept.
I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I havn't shot it even though I have owned it over a year.
(I've got a couple BP pistols and rifles... I've shot BP in the past, but not reciently. Maby it's about time I bought acessories, all I've got is a few pounds of BP.)
I urge you to give it a try. I use .457 round ball, a lubed felt wad (mine are homemade but you can get them commercially), and 3F BP. Number 11 caps fit my ROA's. Pyrodex will work but I REALLY prefer black powder.
I think you'll be pleased with the accuaracy these guns can deliver.
