    One simple question!

How do we stop it and reverse it?

I am sorry for coming across as beligerent right now, but I have been sheepled today and I am so bent out of shape that even I am astounded at how I am feeling.

I will give you the basic background for today's insanity.

Today I let my son watch some homemade bomb vidoes on you tube. He later told me that he wants to be a chemist. I related this story to some aquaintences and you should have seen the fur fly. Here is where it gets ugly.

Imagine a white guy, a black guy, a native American guy and a Mexican guy (we are a very mixed crowd) discussing this choice of career by my son. One guy says your son is gonna be a Unibomber and I call b.s. My son is brought to the spot and put on trial by this "bliss ninny" and my son simply states to that "man" that he is not his father and he does not have to answer to "the charges". Good for the boy, he knows where his heart is. I witness and allow all of this to see how my boy will react.

Said "bliss ninny" accuses my boy of building bombs and killing folks because he will get angry someday. My son is indicted for crimes that have not even been committed but, in this dude's eyes, someone is dead in the future. My boy is 8 years old and everyone says their kid is an angel, but this boy has a heart of gold. Honestly, he sometimes makes my path more righteous and straight.

Then I step up and say that his analogy is the same as saying that any man with a gun is a ticking timebomb. He agrees and I most certainly tell him that he is more than wrong. Keep in mind that this dude does not know that I carry, but he does know that I own guns... This guy likes me and we hang out and I am the timebomb that he warned everyone about...what gives? On top of that, he has said that he would take up arms against the government if slavery were to be officially reinstated.

From there it just kind of unwound into garbage from all mouths.

DO NOT play your race card. Race was mentioned for your mind's eye only.

In the end I mentioned that I had no intention of teaching my son to kill with malice (look at it like this, if he actually takes advanced chemistry then he can make anything....) and my doctrine doesn't advocate offense, as does his. Not to mention that he could make lives soooo much better with the right direction and education.

What it all boils down to this time is that the ignorant are scared of the intelligent because...I still believe that "they" want us to be frogs in a pan and "they" want us all to be equally dead.

Disagree, call me stupid, take pot shots. I do not care. Just respone with your answer as to how we stop and reverse the sheeping of America.

    keep your powder dry . . . . .

When you consider that the revolutionaries in colonial America were clearly a minority in terms of numbers the "sheeping of America" seems to have always been a factor we've had to deal with. You cannot change human nature and all your efforts to do so will come to naught. Instead of bemoaning the fact that there are so many "sheep" be thankful that there are a goodly number of us "sheepdogs" around. Raise your sons and daughters to be the kind of people you admire most and history will take care of itself my friend.

Wasn't the blissninny equipped to be a Rapist? When did he stop beating his wife? Unreasoned fear is its own reward!

first we need to stop with the insults like classifying the people that you say you want to help as sheep or sheeple. it is rapidly becoming as cliche as that i'm too sexy song. you create a stubborn resentment when you make the sheep statements and said 'sheep' will be prone only to re-enforce his/her side and then make some names up for you.

with a timid creature you must move slow, speak softly in the language of they are used to, gain their trust, and then gradually build their confidence before introducing your methods of change.

"Nor does his"?? you don't advocate offense, does he? and, 'he' is your son right? Just curious.

While I'm not eager to reinforce the sheep/sheepdog analogy, I'd agree that something like it happens. You cannot make a 'sheep' a 'sheepdog'. Some lucky few may become so themselves, but you can only help so much. Best thing to do is let the dogs stand tall, let the sheep see they're worthy of emulation. Because not everyone will be a dog, we must reinforce doglike behavior in those dogs we see. It's the way it's always been, and you will not see the decline of the sheep, so try to prevent the decline of the dog.

I'll admit that I'm bigger, and that I *do* walk around like I'm packing brass in my boxers (what was that about young dogs spoiling for a fight?). I don't want everyone to be a dog - I'd have to work that much harder to get noticed :p

You are first hand seeing the results of our politically correct education system. Blame the NEA, then see what you can do to help break that entrenched batch of bliss-ninnies from educating our kids.

For those who espouse political correctness: The human being is a contentious animal. Homo Sapiens got to the top of the food chain by being so. Trying to "correct" that is quite literally going against human nature. No, I'm not advocating blood in the streets, I'm saying that the attitude of; "Toughen up buttercup" better serves than; "Poor baby, your feelings got hurt". Or, do you want your decendants to become fodder?

Sounds like a really bad time.

The only advice I can give you is what was given to me. I am something of a "soft socialist" and that tends to freak people out if not explained, so I lhad to learn to defend myself when put on trial.

    Be Cool

You: Do you really think I am raising my some to be a killer?
Moron: No, No, that's not what I'm saying.
You: Then I don't understand. Just wat are you impling? Are you just saying that I'm a bad parent?
Moron: No, I just don't think you should let your kid see that kind of thing.
You: Why? The reason I let my kid see these things is so that if he ever runs into someone doing this kind of thing he'll know how dangerous it is...Not to mention, I think a child should understand how these things work. There is nothing more dangerous than ignorance.

Remeber, Be cool, but confront. Don't let up. Make him either back down or call you or your son a killer. Because if he does, polietly ask him to leave you home.

When the sheep die by their own ignorance/arrogance or are attacked and learn via their own ignorance/arrogance, that's the day they'll learn. Not until then. Propaganda and brain-washing runs too deep. I fear for their future, 'cause it may well take a single violent attack on each and every one of them to change hearts ... and may even require multiple "hits" on them to change their minds. There simply aren't that many felons around to accomplish the feat. So, how to change their minds? Dunno. Logical, rational discussion doesn't seem to work. But their lack of preparedness will remain their problem; it won't become mine.

There are plenty of people who feel very strongly that the world would be a much better place if our children learned adult skills at an early age. There are many that feel that there should be strong delineations in terms of what those skills should be. I doubt there is any way of reconciling the issue to everyone's satisfaction.

    - Some feel that preteen children should learn domestic and job skills, some disagree.

    - Some feel that preteen children should learn to build bombs from video, some disagree.

    - Some feel that preteen children should learn to perform sexually from video, some disagree.

It is hard to impose personal values upon others.

The problem is that most people are living only for today. They respond to whatever benefits them at the moment. The other problem is that they don't think logically. You have the secular left who have dreams of a utopia and how they can accomplish it - why? because they believe that the world you see is all there is. The left uses emotion to sway the sheepish majority. We, use logical thought. That unfortunately doesn't work for sheep. To wake sheep up, you must have a catastrophic event like 9-11 or Katrina. They only stay awake unfortunately for a short time. Notice the lack of logic in your friends - they responded to you by only emotional, irrational means. That is how sheep behave. You son must be trained to be strong, logical, and persistent with the truth. Don't let the sheep wear you down.

You know, I'm getting really tired of the namecalling. Sheep and whatnot.

I'm not convinced this tendency (to call our opponents names) goes a long way toward helping us understand them so we can better argue our points (after all, sheep aren't sentient creatures), or that it helps to bring them into reasoned debate with us (who wants to join a forum where they're called names at every opportunity?)

Personally, I think we'd do better to leave the pejoratives out of it.

I've personally never liked the term sheep.

Partially because of the disrespect it confers, and partially because of the damage it inflicts upon us by virtue of its use.

My primary objection to the term however is its innacuracy. Sheep tend not to concern their predators... they're just sheep; litle more than Hors d’œuvres.

The people we tend to refer to in this manner actually scare the snot out of us.

    +1 Joe the Redneck.

CDH, I know what it's like to be verbally ambushed in your own home and I also know that I'd sure be unhappy if anyone called my daughter a "unibomber" or other name because it not only calls into question my (in my example) daughter's character, but mine as well.

Personally, my first response to "your child will become a unibomber" would have been something along the lines of "yeah, so my kid had better get some darn good birthday presents this year." But that's not very PC, is it?

In reality, however, Joe was right on when he said to put the question to them and don't let up. When a guest in your house says something so blatantly outrageous, they need to be called to the carpet or asked to leave. As CFriesen said, there are differences in raising children, yadda yadda. However, in this case, it went beyond simple dialogue or making a comment about your friend disagrees with your parenting.

At any rate, I don't think that you'll be able to change anyone's mind about these subjects but for the most part, it's always worth a try.

I too believe that calling blissninny liberals "sheep" is a bad idea. The sheep don't deserve it.
