Whar'd they go??

Gee whiz. I'll say one thing for the Iraqi folks. Their "squirt or get off the pot" tactics really "flushed" out the heroes among the shills,...er,...shields.

Maybe they went to Isreal to "shield" schools and night clubs and bus stops from those peaceful PLO terrorists. Yeah. Maybe that's where they went. I'll bet it is. How much do you want to bet that's what they did?

Almost all of the first British "human shields" to go to Iraq were on their way home last night after deciding that their much-heralded task was now too dangerous.

Too dangerous? I think the proper word, other than cowardice, busybody, media seeker, idiot and moron, is hypocrisy.

LOL! What a bunch of hypocrite morons. I'll tell you though, now that they've had their change of heart, they're damn lucky The Butcher of Bahgdad let them leave. He could have just chained them up the SAM batteries and let them die.

It looks like quite a few villages in England are getting their idiots back. Too bad.

I am actually supriced that they are being allowed to leave. It would not have suprised me to see them arrested as "spies" or such.

Hmmm...very similar to the 'hunger strike' that a bunch of protestors went on back in my college days. A bunch of left-wing idiots decided to protest sweatshops by going on a hunger strike...except for Gatorade and vitamins, that is. It seems they don't have much conviction in their beliefs.

It sure was easy for them to talk the talk about their brave anti-war stance when they thought they'd be positioned at places like hospitals, which we would never target.

What amazes me is that there was nothing in the article about the "shields" condeming the Iraqis for telling them to place themselves in strategic locations. They seem to be blaming themselves for not doing what the Iraqis said. Some people never learn. These idiots will return home and continue to support Iraq.

Too dangerous? B.S.

Probably some of them really did stop to think it over and decide they weren't as brave as they thought, but how many, whether they'll admit it or not, were so shocked by their new firsthand experience of Iraq and its benevolent government that they decided they were on the wrong side?

Maybe that's wishful thinking.

Who do the "shields" remind you of?

John Kerry, that's who! He threw "somebody else's medals" over the fence at the Whitehouse in his idiotic war protest. His own hang proudly framed in his orifice. Noisy phony for president! Yeah! Noisy phony for human shield! Yeah!

Yeah.

How about a war movie: "Saving The Village Idiots."??

Or is that: "Saving The Useful Idiots"???

raving whatever

Well, they DID get a trip to Baghdad out of it. Probably be ALL the talk down at the pub; how they did their part to make a point and take a stance against the evil America/Great Satan.

Would be interesting to know exactly where they were ALL going to be placed tho' and just what it was they were going to be "shielding".

"What's that? Near an Army base, you say? I say gov'nor, can't WE pick the places? What's that? He's a Dictator? Not bloody likely, mate! I'm going back home. Nobody tells ME what to do!"

Why can't we send Alec Baldwin and his ilk over to take their places? Sorry Alec, that was mean spirited of me. And I really do admire your acting skills too.

Adios

Too Bad.

Perhaps they saw a WWII photo of Mussolini and his mistress hanging by their heels at a gas station after the crowd was done with them.

Perhaps they realized that when Saddam collapsed and the people took to the streets to settle old scores, the Iraqis might not look too kindly on these foreign "friends" of Saddam.

Dang! I was looking forward to stories of plaintive cries of "SAVE ME!" and U.S. troops saying, in the best tradition of Marine boot instructors, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU??"

Human Shields? Hell, I wouldn't even use 'em for panty shields.

They decided to leave when they found out the literal Iraqi translation for "shield" is "target of opportunity"
.:neener:

These people are not “Human Shieldsâ€! A “human shield†is an involuntary captive, a hostage, a victim whose predicament and safety is of legitimate concern to those who may attack. Not one who is a political protestor. One who volunteers to offer aid to a declared enemy of their own country in a time of war is a traitor. This makes them enemies as well. This makes their presence at genuine military targets irrelevant!

Perhaps someone told them.
:uhoh:

Some British 'Human Shields' Flee Iraq

Sunday, March 02, 2003

LONDON — Some of the peace activists who went to Iraq to serve as human shields in the event of war returned home, fearing for their safety, a spokesman said Sunday.

The human shields are mostly European activists who drove from London to Baghdad in two double-decker buses last month, intending to guard civilian sites from a U.S.-led military attack.

Those who returned home had safety or financial concerns, spokesman Christiaan Briggs said.

"The aim was always a mass migration and if we had had five to ten thousand people here there would never be a war," he said. "We do not have those numbers."

The Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported that nine of the 11 British human shields in the bus convoy had left Baghdad. Briggs said about a dozen Britons remained in Iraq alongside several dozens from other countries.

He told Britain's Press Association news agency that Iraq limited the sites that human shields could visit. "Now we are being told we cannot go to certain sites, such as hospitals, so we are reassessing our strategy," he said.

U.S. officials have said that it is a war crime to use civilians as human shields and that there's no way of guaranteeing their safety.

On Friday, the head of Sweden's largest peace organization urged human shields to leave Iraq, saying they were being used for propaganda purposes by Saddam Hussein.

Maria Ermanno, chairwoman of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society, cited reports that Iraqi officials were arranging transportation, accommodations and news conferences for the human shields.

"To go down to Iraq and live and act there on the regime's expense, then you're supporting a terrible dictator. I think that method is entirely wrong," Ermanno told Swedish Radio.

Dream on.
"We do not have those numbers."
Not for lack of idiots at least.

Gee, I wonder why their access for "visiting" hospitals was "limited"? Hmmm.....

Duh!
"To go down to Iraq and live and act there on the regime's expense, then you're supporting a terrible dictator. I think that method is entirely wrong," Ermanno told Swedish Radio.
How could left-wing blissninnies be wrong?   :barf:

The reason they couldn't visit hospitals is probably because that's where Saddam packs away the dissidents he can't immediately shoot for one reason or another. It also keeps them out of the eyes usually looking at prisons. The Soviets used to pack away dissidents in psychiatric hospitals for a dual purpose. One, it kept them away from the populace and under strict control. Two, it made it appear that anyone against communism was crazy.

The "human shields" had to back off once they learned we'd bomb Iraq whether they were there or not. They had no intention of dying for their beliefs.
