Anyone familiar with this sporting goods/outdoor equipment chain? One opened recently in Phoenix and I haven't had time to check it out yet. How's the firearms selection?

Sportsmen's Warehouse is my ultimate favorite store. Better than shoe shopping!!! There are three of them here in the Salt Lake/Provo/Ogden metro area. The selection is great, and as a female, I get really good non-discriminatory service from them.

They have a lot of stuff that smaller stores don't carry. I still go to the little mom and pop gunshops, but I like knowing I can get it at Sportsmen's if they don't have it elsewhere.

I just came back from shopping there. They had a great opening a few weeks ago. All their handgun and rifle powders at an excellent price. I asked them specifically if those were special prices and if that was because of the opening. The sales person asked his supervisor and said that those were their regular prices. So i only bought 1 pound, because I thought I can come back anytime if I need more. But today I noticed that the prices on powder had raised tremendously, a price I can get at every little gun store or even cheaper. Doh!

Since I rather support the local guys I won't go there again. They have a good selection of handguns ( didn't check for rifles) but nothing I cannot get somewhere else either.

They opened one here last year. Good selection of all kinds of outdoor and sporting goods stuff, including guns. It's not quite a Cabela's, but the prices are probably a little better. I bought a gun there, and the guy behind the counter was patient, knowledgable, and friendly. I liked the place.

One opened here recently. So far, I've gone in thirteen times and bought something twice. The most recent purchase was a rear bag for my rifle. No problem.

The first purchase was a set of
Burris Signature rings for that same rifle. I was told that I could simply rotate the inserts to correct for any misalignment in the mount. Wrong!!

When I took the rings back to get the proper inserts, they not only didn't have them-- they didn't know what I was talking about. I finally got the inserts from Graf and Sons, a great outfit!

The other eleven times I've gone in there I've been looking for things they don't stock but will be glad to order for me. I can order things myself from a variety of sources, usually quicker and sometimes cheaper.

To me, they seem more like an overpriced Sears than a serious sporting goods store. Their prices aren't all that good either.

I have to agree with oldfart. I went into the new SW here in Portland to look around and maybe buy a holster for my Ruger P90.

The guys at the gun counter were kind of knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. Although they did have some of the handguns miss-marked. When I found a Bianchi belt slide for my Ruger I took it to the counter and they let me put it on and lent me a P90 to try in it.

Got a free bore scope and some literature and headed to the checkout. Gave the checker my credit card and she asked for ID. Showed them my DL and she said "you have to take it out of your wallet." Said keep the stuff and left. Got the belt slide for about the same price on line and didn't have to show ID.

I went back a couple weeks ago to see if they had a cart for hauling my decoys out to the blind. They had one that was about half as sturdy as I can get from Cabellas for about the same money. The guy I asked said "we are getting new stuff all the time, check back.".

Also looked for a CO2 cartridge for a friends Sterns fishing vest. (He bent over, stood on the handle and then stood up.) They only handle one type of inflatable vest and no supplies for any others. They tried to sell me one, CO2 cartridge, that was clearly marked for only the type they do sell.

Their prices on most things aren't as good as many of the local stores either.

I have to pass real close to SW whenever I go to my favorite cigar shop and it is a temptation, but I don't think I will shop there any more.

Decent prices on firearms....not everyone is knowledgeable..pretty good selection.

Ammo is OK..not as good as Walmart

That's distressing about the ID thing. I was asked to show ID when I used my credit card, as is becoming more common everywhere, and I appreciate the effort. I'm only going to remove license from the wallet for LEO though. I'd walk too, after demanding to see the manager.

My primary purchases thus far have been reloading supplies. I've ventured around and compared ammo prices, which seems slightly lower and higher than other places. Was pleased that they stock Wolf ammo, but need to stock 9x18.

I looked over the gun rack and saw nothing of interest, to me anyway, cept for maybe a shotgun or two. I'm basically a C&R military rifleman and buy direct from the distributors.

I haven't had the chance to flesh out their fishing gear prices and will probably take a look tomorrow morning after shooting at Johnson Creek. Oldfart, PM if you're available to shoot.

The clothing prices were good on Carhart stuff. I love their clothings, as I'm hard on my play clothes.

I like the place but will still do business with other retailers like GI Joes, Keiths, NW Armory, Bi-Mart.

Haven't even been upstairs yet to look at the boats.

I'll throw in with oldfart. Fun place to look around, about $1.00 cheaper on the ammo than my favorite local gun store, but my favorite dealer knows me by name, and what gear I like.

I doubt I will ever be that good of a customer at SW. But still fun to look when the wife wants to goto Old Navy and the shoe store here, I go to SW to waste time.

RTFM

oldfart, you sound like an oldfart. :D

The Sportsman's Warehouse near me is a pretty good store. Prices tend to be low, and they have a good (though not stellar selection). You're always going to find less-than-knowledgeable salespeople in large chains like this. Just a fact of life.

I like the store a lot.IT's really nice to have a large selection of just about anything I want, especially powder and shot.I don't expect 'em to be the lowest price in town......you ca'nt run a huge store with tons of overhead and give stuff away.DUH!
The "counter men" i've talked to seemed well versed in guns, which is a lot more than I can say for "some" stores....ya listenin',Wal Mart???

There is supposedly one coming to a place near me. Anyone have a website addy for them and do they sell or will they atleast order AR's and other black rifles?

Thanks

Have a Sportsmans Warehouse here in Idaho Falls.

The manager, I think his name was John, was transfered to the new Store in Phoenix.

Didn't know he was the manager till about a week before he left.

Lived across the road from my best friend and didn't even get to know him.

Kicin'himself for not inviting him over for a beer or something.

Think of the discounts if he likes you??????????
