The Ted Yost Govern-Mander Has Arrived

OK, I made up the name. Ted doesn't actually offer a pistol called the Govern-Mander--yet. Maybe after I show it off a little, he'll add it to the line.







It began as a New-Rollmark Commander. Then it received most of Ted's 1* package. And then Ted put it in a room with a Government model for some 1911 mating rituals. (Whether Lew played a '70s Barry White 8-track is a matter of debate.) Add some retro touches, and the Govern-Mander is born.

• Complete dependability package with Wilson Bulletproof extractor
• Trigger job with Nowlin tool-steel sear
• Fitted short trigger
• Colt Gov't spur hammer
• Colt Gov't grip safety
• High-cut and bobbed hammer
• Ed Brown strong-side safety, dehorned and narrowed
• Yost-Bonitz retro rear sight
• Dovetailed Novak serrated ramp front sight
• Wilson match bushing
• Stippled frontstrap
• Ed Brown mainspring housing, stippled
• Hand-filed magazine well bevel
• Recrowned barrel
• Tightened frame and slide
• Complete dehorn
• Satin matte bead blast and blue

I hope to get some better pics soon--not to mention get it to the range. Just from my first impressions, I find it hard to see why anyone would spend big bucks on a "semi-custom" production 1911. Even as a no-nonsense "serious" gun, this Pony-bearing blaster is a work of art.

Ted and Lew were great to work with. They put up with my changing requests and gave good advice too.

I just traded yet another email with Ted over my Springfield he'll be working on later this year. It's a variation on the 1* package as well.

Everytime someone posts a picture of his recent work, I have to start my "must be patient" mantra all over again!

Ted, Lew and Steve are one heck of a crew. Ted salvaged a mangled Colt for me a while ago and now has a NIB 1991 in his shop waiting for its turn in line. I'm stoked.

Like you, hoss, I keep changing my mind on what I want. I do like the stock look of your piece, with the attention to detail taking the forefront, and hope to accomplish something similar.

Ted hates getting my emails because he knows there's something gonna be changed.

The upside is that putting up with my assinity only gets more money into his shop......Lew's gonna make my 870 super-shotty, and I still don't have an AR!

Gotta love artists and their creations. Pay $1000+ for a wilson or springfield? Why, when Yost/Bonitz is open for business?

Why buy a stock gun when you can have a custom shooter for twice the price?

What a pleasure to see this fine work online. The pictures are very ,very ,good also. I have known Ted for a while and his work gets better every day and he is right up there now with the best. My compliments on such a fine job of work! I really miss him since he went south but one of these days in the winter, I will drive down his way and get re-aquainted!

AAARRRGHH!!! Stuck in Bosnia for three more months, waiting to see which gets home first, me or my Yost 10mm, and I have to see this!!! Maddening!!! Drool-inducing!!! But, on a postive note, if the kinda stuff that's holding Ted up from my gun are beautiful pieces like this one, it makes it easier to take. Nice gun Schmack... can't wait to joing the Yost, owners' group.

Dave, those pics were just from my wee digicam, with the luxurious carpet background... I hope to get some natural-light pics soon. I owe some folks pics of the stippling too.

Darkside, those grips are the stock Colt NRM grips. I saw no need to change them since they have such a nice grain.

Halvey, the work that was done wasn't a particular package. It was most of Ted's 1* package, and then I requested my own touches--like the Gov't features, for instance. So there's no set price for the work I did. Give Ted a call and he'll discuss whatever kind of work you like.

Wow, thats a nice 1911! I never would of guessed those were the stock colt grips either. Everytime I see a picture of Yosts Work, it makes me want to send a hi power to him, even though i cant afford too.

The MSH stippling is a fantastic match for the frontstrap stippling. It's very grippable and very comfy for extended shooting.
