The THR (VIRTUAL) Summer BBQ

Dangitall, now y'all have gone and made me hungry. I'll bring sweet tea for before the shoot and make margaritas afterwards. For meat, well, it's just hard to beat a good steak.

I'm torn as to what to carry. I've never done this whole BBQ Carry thing before, but I suppose this would do the trick:
index.php

Or maybe this one:

I'm a little light on rifles, so I'm sure I'd wind up bringing a .22. Maybe this one? RAT, COMPLETE.jpg

We could have a VIRTUAL squirrel hunt on the day preceding our VIRTUAL BBQ.
You better bring your .22s, .17s, or even your .32 or .36 bp rifles.
Anything you would use for a squirrel hunt.

I'm not certain what we'll do with 40-50 squirrels.?..?
I guess this will need to be a two day bbq..? Better bring your campers or tents!

Well, if we're gonna tempt Armored Farmer's interests in front stuffers, I'll contribute a little.

Got a couple of knives too. A little awkward for chowin' down though.

Now if'n I'm gonna bring these here guns along, then I'll have to break out my jug of Taos Lighting too.
Wow @Iggy
Love those. 40 flinters, and the Medina Rifle......well all of them really. Very nice.

I don’t have any BBQ guns in the classic sense but I do like to grill.

I recently made some burnt ends the other day on my pellet grill. Smoked them for about 6 hrs….

Finished them off with my home made sweet and spicy BBQ sauce and also made some smoked corn on the cob

As far as an accoutrement, my prettiest pistol would be this T Series Hi Power

I would love to host the real thing, but we all know that's not likely to happen. So, let's have a "VIRTUAL" BBQ.

Why would it be unlikely? Members of the Walther Forum had an annual shoot and BBQ in Florida for a number of years. We typically had 20 or so forum members show up including some from other states. It was tons of fun and a great opportunity to fondle and shoot a lot of different (often rare) firearms. We were lucky in that the St Lucie Shooting Center had a lounge and BBQ area which made it a perfect setup for group shoots. While it is some work to put it all together, for the attendees it was an absolute blast with any number of real world lasting friendships made. I would guess that with the wide reach of THR it wouldn't be too hard to find enough members willing to travel some to attend such an event. I happily drove 3 hours each way to attend the Walther event.

I've never done this whole BBQ Carry thing before,
I have, and allow me to share a bit.

Classically, a person with "a spread" wants to celebrate something--a windfall, a personal success, or perhaps a matriculation of some sort. Being a generous and gregarious sort, this person will know a couple hundred folk to invite to such an event.
The host will typically dress as they would for any other day "on the spread" (which might be also called "out to the farm" or "over to the ranch" or the like). Which would include the ability to cope with pest and annoyances (like coyotes).
In days of old, such a person would generally be acquainted of the Sheriff, the DA, and the like, and might well have access to Trusty's at the Jail who would hand-tool leather. Or, perhaps they knew an artisan who made up their tack. Really didn't matter, it was their land, so they could Open Carry whatever they wanted to.

Now, the townfolk invited to such things might be of similar stature, equipment and experience. Or, the town Pharmacist might just want to show off his fancy rig. So, it could be a social appearance as much as anything else. Now, note, all hands are polite, too. There's no onus for not being armed, or for perhaps toting something in pot metal (unless one were under a delusion it was Adamantium or the like).

Food would be "ranch sized," an entire side of beef sometimes. Pit smoking in the Barbacoa style is frequent. Emptying out the smoke house pretty common, too. There's a recent trend to hire in a "chuckwagon" with appropriate chefs to cater such things, too. "Pot luck" style is less common, but not uncommon.

At the core it's about community and generosity--if with a bit of pomp after a fashion.

Why would it be unlikely?
Well, a THRFest would be a pretty big event, even at 5 or10% of membership.

Having helped set up a Fest or two, they get unwieldy over about 150 people as finding lodging and a large enough venue for cheap enough becomes an issue quickly.

Needing somewhere from 100 to 180 days to get one of these off the ground is a significant burden.

So, a virtual version is far more achievable--and has been working out so far.

Went to a BBQ my Great Uncle put on when he bought a ranch in Colorado. A full buffalo on a spit overnight. I was just a kid and don't remember the details, except it sure tasted good.
I also remember he had to sell the ranch within about 6 months. Bad investment or too expensive a BBQ? I don't know. :(;)

Not to mention that I'm a bot and not real.
LoL. Prolly more bionic than bot from all those mui picante chicharones [:)]

Couple of decades ago, one of my Fora wanted to do a Texas Fest--it took most of a Month deciding upon a where in Texas. (PK Lake for having extensive campground and cabins, too.)

I would guess the "unwieldy" tag would come long before 150 participants much less 10% of THR. I would be a happy attendee at an event that large but certainly wouldn't want to be responsible for it. Still the Walther Forum events prove it's certainly doable on a state or regional basis.

Why didn't I think of smoked corn?
I have a pellet smoker and my sweet corn patch is prime right now!

Lay the details out to us ASAP will ya ?

I smoke them for an hour then crank it up to about 400. I melt a stick of butter and mix in some garlic powder, Tony Chachere’s, salt and pepper and pour that over the corn and cook it till done
