Thanks to RugerBob, I humbly ask to be admitted into the club of discerning black powder handgunners.

It didn't come with the wood box or spurs, but it did come wrapped in one sock. If he sent the other sock, I could have a pair instead of running around trying to buy one sock. Why do people do this to me?

Thank you RugerBob.

4x50 Gary..Welcome aboard and into one of the proudest Clubs in America which I happen to rank right alongside of the USMC and the CIA..I had never thought to look at the membership list for your name. Guess I just figured somewhere in the back of my mind that you were there. Figured you had a least a couple of Walkers hanging on the wall..WELCOME ABOARD SIR!!....Good looking Walker. Don't shoot your toe off....

I think RugerBob is wearing the other sock.

Thanks to Scrat, I'll be getting a R&D 45 Long Colt conversion kit for it (the Walker, not the sock).

I went to Costco today to buy socks. I could not find one that matched. I guess I'm SOL.

You guys are killing me! Over the past several days I've read through this entire thread! I have a couple of unfired Uberti 2nd Model Dragoons that, after reading through the file, will be taken afield as soon as I assemble all the necessary paraphenalia. And no doubt a Walker will be close behind!

This has to be one of the most informative threads ever! Thanks, all.

Okay... .454 balls? Check. Goex FFFg? Check. Flask? Check. Powder measure? Check. Lubed wads? Check. Percussion caps? Check. Lube? Check.

Winning bid on unfired 1993 Uberti Walker? Check!
Pics to follow as soon is it arrives in my sweaty hands ...

This po' sinner can modernize his Walker with a R&D 45 LC conversion cylinder that Scrat just sold him. Thank you Scrat. One day I'll post a pic of the Walker, the conversion cylinder and the legendary RugerBob sock. I walked past Goodwill the other day and didn't even think of going in to find the matching side.

2010 Uberti Walker and 2011 R&D cylinder.
Most fun and formidable gun on the planet.
BP, smokeless & BP cartridge rounds all fun
(especially pushing the 60 Gr. BP level :))

Okay, I'm pretty much finished my "short" barreled Walker project. I just need a new loading lever latch now. One of the members at coltforum sent me a bunch of silver coins and I installed one as a front sight. A friend of mine turned out a neat attachment I can slip over the end of the lever for ease of loading.
Now can I get back on the Walker club list?! I keep getting taken off for some reason.

Okay...I would love to post pictures of it but this site won't let me do it. I've posted dozens of pics here in the past but none of the things I used to do will work now. What changed?
If someone can tell me what hoop I need to jump through now I would love to post some pictures. I've even tried the method listed in the posting pics sticky. Nothing will make an image show up here.
Thanks for any help.

Okay, I had to change the name of the album it was in from "other sh*t" to "Other Stuff". Now it works and that offensive word that nobody could see anyway is now gone. Now all I have to do is repost every picture I ever used in that album in all my other forum threads. But at least the censors are happy.

Here you go:

Here's the neat loading lever attachment my friend made me to give me more leverage:

Okay, it's probably not politically correct to refer to a Walker as "Cute" but...

Ain't that Walker Cute??

Does the loading lever stay put when you're shooting since it's been gnawed off to a stub or does it tend to migrate down?

I am also going to assume that when you go out to shoot this thing you've probably got a fire extinguisher beside you to deal with all the flame that has to come out of the end of that over-sized Derringer.

"Does the loading lever stay put when you're shooting since it's been gnawed off to a stub or does it tend to migrate down?"

Actually I haven't fired it yet. Also the little spring catch for the lever broke. I'm waiting to hear back from coltparts.com to see if they have a new one in stock I can buy. I doubt if it will fall once the new catch is on there.

twaits,

That has a familiar look to it.

I am guessing you have cut the barrel to 5"? That is were mine is.

No, the loading lever will not fall, even with a full load. Hoewever, my front sight went missing after the first shot. (The previous owner had used epoxy or JBWeld to hang it in place.) The lever extender is a good idea, until you leave it behind. I have since removed the lever and load the cylinder on a bench or tree stump or in my lap.

The more I use Short Mort, the more I like it. It will never be mistaken for a consealed carry revovler or even a fast draw piece but it is a hoot to shoot.

Glad I am not the only one to own and enjoy a shorter mortar!

Strawhat,

I cut it to 5 1/2 inches. I peened in the silver coin front sight which was already a super tight fit. I'm hoping it doesn't come out. But if it does I have more silver coins I can use and I will just solder it in next time.

Strawhat and twaits,

Since you guys have been showing off your short morts, I have really come to like that look even better than a full length Walker model.

Decent Sights for Dragoons !!!

Colt made some 3rd Model Dragoons with THREE LEAF REAR SIGHTS mounted on the barrel directly in front of the cylinder.

These were the "4 screw" models designed to take a shoulder stock.

IF someone would make a reproduction of that sight, we could see how great Colts could shoot with a decent pair of sights mounted on it.

Some computer engineering studies have shown that the "Open Top" Colt design is much more rigid (for purposes of accuracy) than the top strap designs like the Remington or the Rogers & Spencer revolvers!
