yeah.

could be due to the size of the walker cylinder but i just cant get any power into seating the balls. i had another go today and i had to install the cylinder back into the gun and use the loading lever to seat them low enough.

he stated that his design solved the issues of the other presses... not true for the walker tho :(

im only guessing but if i shorten A, it might reduce the effort needed on the lever on the down stroke since its almost at max height with the cylinder and unseated ball under the rammer.

Freddy,
In looking at the photo of the loader, I got an idea...

Is there anyway you could remove the plunger? If so, maybe you could cut it in two. Install a threaded rod into the cupped end of the plunger. That way, maybe you could adjust the length of the plunger by turning the end into or out of the plunger arm. Put a set screw into the side of the arm to lock down the threaded shaft. That way you could set the length and keep it consistent for whatever lenght cylinder you were loading. You could maybe lower the angle of the handle slightly for a better mechanical advantage by adjusting the threaded plunger shaft.:scrutiny:

I know what I was hoping to say... I think it is almost clear as mud:confused:

looking for some help

Made a big mistake yesterday I let my son in law(AKA Bone head) use my Walker My last words to him as it went out the door was '' make sure you clean it this time" Now for the bad news it just came back what went out the door as a Walker came back as a box full of parts Bone Head took it ALL apart :fire: and has no idea how to put it back together:cuss: and I have no idea anyone out here in AZ get this back together for me I will ship it to ya just let me know how much thanks for the help guys The life you save will be Bone Heads

its not too hard to put back together yourself. trickiest part is getting the hand and spring up into the hole and maybe the wedge back into the barrel.

http://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=8&cat=Uberti+1847+Walker
Uberti_1847walkerschem.jpg

as you can see some screws only work in one spot, others have several spots they can go.

put the hand into the hammer and feed the hand up the hole along where the hammer goes, you might need a screwdriver to compress the spring as you slide it up to get it to agree.

put the hammer into place and put that screw in.

now you have the trigger and cylinder stop (10 and 12) just by looking you should, in theory see how that sits, and last put in the bolt spring (19). hopefully there is wear marks on the 10 and 12 so you see which way round it goes.

now you put the trigger guard on, and with the main spring, you sit it in it spot and compress it and slide it up under the hammer.

check it all works like it is supposed to.

the only other tricky bit is plunger, that only works one way. if it doesnt, just turn it around.

hope thats some help

...

With my press, i sent DD an email about the issue and he is going to make up some parts and send them to me for free! i took some measurements for him and hopefully in a week or 3 i can load off the gun :D

thanks

thanks for the info but for Boneheads sake I was looking for someone that has done this before to figure it out for me I think if I did it and it did not work I would beat bonehead with it

Ok Without even looking at a picture or the gun here i go.

Take the hammer and hand spring. Place the hand in the round hole in the hammer carefully guide the hammer in from the bottom of the gun. The hand will go into a slot if the spring sticks out use a small screw driver to put it in. Once you get it in position there is only one screw that will go in.

2 you have two screws that look the same long with threads on the inner part. they are interchangeable. turn the frame over so the bottom is showing. The square hole in the frame is where the bolt goes. lay down the bolt. With the hammer facing you long ways and the front of the revolver the business side facing away the bolt goes on the left side. Now take the trigger put it in place on the right side then put the screws through both.

3 last take the bolt spring and screw in position this is a short screw. Now loosely place in the forward screw in the trigger guard. Then position the main spring. I muscle it on my own. Grabbing the arbor shaft and trigger guard squeeze together to compress the main spring with one hand then start the two back trigger guard screws. After that check all screws make sure the main spring is straight now put the grips and backstrap on.

4. Done. can almost do it with my eyes closed. but then i have 6 revolvers

Watch this video i know its not a WALKER but very close. Just when you go to reassemble remember what i wrote on how i put the main spring on. #3

Hey, I missed this post. Your copy of 'Blood Meridian' looks even more loved than mine does! It is one of those books I read when I don't have anything else pulling me in; I do the same wit 'Moby-Dick'.

Nice Walker!

*This was in reply to Honest John's post from Christmas Day, 2011. Is there an autoquote function here?

Hello everyone. I just finally got mine a few days ago. I haven't shot it yet as I recently had surgery on my hand so I have to wait 'til it heals. Looking forward to it though. :D

walker question

hey everyone, just joined the site and have read many interesting facts about the walker. i have had many colt replicas over the years and just came across an older uberti walker. judging by the date codes, i guess it's a 1986 manufacture. my question is, did uberti use wood grips with the silver rampant colt inlayed in them that year? or did someone put these on? it came in an older uberti box. i don't have a picture yet but will get one at the end of the week.

To my knowledge Uberti has never used any grips other than plain walnut on any of their replica revolvers at any time in their history.

agreed, i have searched high and low and found nothing. i could guess that someone put them on at a later time. i will take a closer look at it when i get home in a few days. the only thing i know is it is uberti because the serial # on the box and pistol match.

I'm glad to this thread back on the first page. For a while I was beginning to wonder what happened to the interest in the Walker.:scrutiny:

As for the rampant colt grip inlay, I would be willing to bet coffee Uberti didn't do that. That could be a possible trademark infringement if it was done. :uhoh: The Colts I have seen didn't have them either.

Anyway, It's good to be back on the front page...

i know it's killin' me to be out of town and not be able to get some pictures up. maybe one of you guys can shed more light on it then. got a pair of uberti 1st model dragoons i'll throw up too.

I have to admit I am no wiz at posting pictures. I usually have my daughter do stuff like that for me:banghead:

She tells me it has something to do with me being a "dinosaur".

more info on the walker.... uberti box, the sticker on the box is taylor and co. with the serial # starting with just an "A". be able to put pics up on friday. i still can't find anything on the rampant colt grips anywhere.:banghead:

I could have sworn this thread had like 50 pages. What happened to the rest of them?

Many pages have been filled with the repeating member list. :)

All the pages of this thread are here as always. The number of pages you have depends on how many posts/ page you have chosen in the edit options. I chose 30. So I have 114 pages. If you chose 10 then you will have 339 pages. And so forth.

If you want a page that isn't listed in the page numbers at bottom of each page, just type the page you want in the address bar at top of browser.

If i am on page 114 and want page 30 you just delete the 114 at the end of the address and type in 30. Hit Enter
