being an asm you need to check out the link on my 1860 asm help thread. as there are a few sites that sho asm parts but do not actually carry them.
Deer creek had them on the first phone call. So for yours i would think about how you want the finished product to look weather you want a blued black finish. or the raw steel finish.
so for the first part i would say a good cleaning lubing would be in order then you need to make sure the action works. if it does than your on to a good start.

so depending on what you want we can go from there. What are looking for how do you want it to look

Just recieved a new to me Walker. It needs some help as it has a couple of broken springs but it was imported by Replica Arms, Marietta, Ohio and was built in 1965 by Uberti.

This replaces the one stolen from me by the brother-ex-law.

Madcratebuilder, I realize you posted a few months back but did you ever find your black powder? Bi-Mart carries it and a lot of other related items and they are a regional chain of stores that are employee owned and very gun friendly. Even in the big city (Portland) I get no funny looks if I go to the gun counter or at checkout. It is always "yes sir, anything else you need" a nice store to shop at. On Friday I am going in to buy a bunch of reloading supplies they have on sale and that includes black powder, subs and caps.

Yeah, I know but it came that way and it was imported by my favorite people.

I will probably cut it off in front of the barrel lug and sleeve a new barrel in to bring it back to the correct length.

The rammer will also be lengthened to approximate the correct length.

I don't know, it's kind of cool as is Strawhat. A snubnose walker. Not too many of those around. I bet the flame from that little barrel will be impressive. :D

oouch

Bet that rammer will get your attention when loading!!!

OMG someone needs to get a serious whipping for that. :what::what:

I think there should be a criminal charge.

Walker Abuse

That is just wrong all the way around.

not good. Please keep us informed on bringing that Revolver back to its proper way. Wow. I wonder if its possible to buy a whole new front. Take it to a gunsmith and have them machine it to fit. It would be nice if one of us lived closer to you. We could see what brand fits close enough. I imagine the most important part would be making sure the arbor shaft fit, the barrel was aligned correctly and that the front pins met. if they were remotely close on the first two i bet it could be machined to work. Even if the arbor shaft was the wrong size if the barrel ligned up correctly it could be machined to fit.

Thats going to be the problem. He knows who imported it. I imagine only the serial number will tell. Problem is with the barrel gone. all the other marks are gone. A 1965 gun too will be a problem. everyone has changed a little since then. Then if it was ASM or Santa Barbara your not going to find any barrels for that. Unless a Uberti can be made to fit. He needs to find someone near him that has an uberti. or something else so they can do a quick change to see how off it is.

Taking my WALKER In for repairs

Im not doing it. For one my time is very short for the next few weeks. I called up my local gunsmith talked to him about doing some work on my WALKER. Taking it in tomorrow. Here is the run down on problems.

1. Shoots excellent but you can only get around 2 cylinders through it. Then you have to take it apart to remove spent caps.

2. Caps is a major problem with this. Its a cimaron made by Uberti.

3. Already put treso nipples on it. Doesnt help.

Here is the problem. That groove to the right that most of the frames have to allow spent caps to fall through. Well the Walker does not have it. So if a piece comes off it will either get wedged in between the cylinder and frame. Which locks up the revolver or falls behind the frame into the works. The only luck i have ever had with it is to put a dab of grease around the nipples. To keep the fired caps in place. So right now i am almost just shooting with the R&D cylinder as you cant shoot it cap and ball.

So called up my gun smith told him about the problems and about the modifications. He said to bring it in with both cylinders and the paper work on the modification. Im going to see if he can put that groove on the right side as well. All my other guns work so good. But i have to get him involved to get this gun to shoot correctly. While i am at it im going to have him take it apart and smooth out the action some more. He is estimating he can do it all for about 60.00. Thats going through the action cleaning it up. Making sure both cylinders are matched perfectly to the timing on the revolver. Then doing this modification.

scrat,

The problems you are experiencing, along with others, including weight, are among the reasons Colts came out with the Dragoons series.

I do most of my own fixing of firearms. Have been doing it since I was 8 or 9, not much I am leary of tackling.

Most of my tools are not modern but they get the job done.

I was fortunate enough to know several gunsmiths and except for a rifling machine (hand cranked) the most modern tool they had were coffee pots.

I have a couple of things planned for this revolver but fast draw is not one of them!

As things progress, I will open another thread and keep you all apprised.

I can do it. heck i used to own a machine shop. Not worried about it at all. My problem is time. today i am in town. Tomorrow i will be on the road for 4 hours. then same thing for the rest of the week. Same thing next week as well a lot of road traveling for the next few weeks.

I am ashamed to admit that I was "Walkerless" for a few months. I had to sell my ASM to help pay off the tax man. But, I fixed that today in a big way....

Went to my local sporting goods/gun shop on my lunchbreak and found a couple of trade-ins.

The first is an Armi San Marco 1st Model Dragoon, made in 1973 and serial # 556. Has a bit of wear & tear but is still pretty nice.

The second is better- An Uberti Walker, made in 2002, that has never been fired! Other than some rotation marks on the cylinder it is perfect.

Best part is I paid only $400 for the pair! I wasn't planning on buying any guns, but I couldn't pass up this deal.

Pics to follow,
John

Where is everyone at. Update on my walker i went and picked it up today looks good just need to go out to the range and try it out.

scrat,

Refresh our memory.

What was done to your 1847?

I was surprised to find this Walker area! So howdy guys! Hope I can join in.

My Colt 3rd gen Walker is nothing special...other than being special!

The main reason I got a Walker years ago is that one of my relatives had a pair when he was in the original Texas Rangers..Company C which later became Texas Confederate Cavalry and then reverted back to Rangers after the war. If I ever get around to it, I plan to lay the revolver on his marker and take a picture.

We've always been a LEO family....I just retired, but most of the time I carried a Colt .45 1911....one year I brought the walker with me during yearly qualification, and for grins walked up to the line with it and cut loose.....you never seen so many shocked faces! Used quite a bit of powder that day after everyone tried it out! On the 25 yard line it shot as good as the .45!

He also pointed out the problem of the loading lever falling under recoil and then showed how the Dragoon solved these problems.

I couldn't join this club because of this common believe .My fearing of loading lever faling under recoil prompted me to get Dragoon 3rd model instead of Walker but 40 grain charge of PYrodex P will knock out the rammer off its spring load keeper everytime :( .
