This is were my brother will be spending some of his time when the season opens in november. I put out a gallon jug of deer cain yesterday for him. Later today or tomorrow I will take a mineral block down there.where my grandson is standing is where I put the Deer cain.
There is a mineral block where I will be sitting this deer season. I have to take a gallon jug of the deer cain there and get it in place.
I will post a picture of my deer spot after we get the stuff in place.
We took my grandson hunting over to Greene earlier this morning. He missed his shot at a grsy squirrel.
When we got back to my brothers place I put out the other gallon of Deer Cain by where I will be sitting.
Here are shots of what I will be looking at. The deer cross the road here from one big set of woods to the other big set of woods across the street.

I have several Ithaca model 66 shotguns, a few of the 410 gauge and a few 20 gauges. One of the 20 gauge shotguns has a vent-rib barrel. I have only seen this one 20 gauge and there was a 12 gauge with one listed on gun broker awhile ago.
Got a couple interesting views from my ladder stand in a shotgun / handgun area. One from last Friday when I was out changing cards on trail cams and one from last season... 2 pictures.... : ; same view....different time of year.
I hunt in several areas and all of them have cattle so it is common to see them in front of the shooting spot. Thought you would like to see a big cow eating a hedge apple.
Southern Arizona is a different place to hunt. Here is a view from my ground blind
Now that looks pretty wet, but don't be fooled. Although not directly adjacent to the water hole this was taken within a couple of miles and is typical of the landscape I hunt. The deer hide very well in these flats. And I have a couple of hundred square miles of these flats where I hunt.
This water hole is the only natural water I could find in a 20 square mile area. It is 18 miles from the nearest town. Population around 500. And that is how the crow flies. I usually hunt 7 or 8 miles closer in, but no natural water and no deer seen. There will be no trips into town at night for dinner this year. There are stock tanks scattered all around the area but I find that the deer tend to visit them at night. I was lucky enough to harvest a nice buck at a water hole just like this two years ago. But deer are pretty hard to hunt in this country. Success rates are in the single digits and that has been true for me for the past 10 years. Only one buck.
Why you ask do I keep going back to this place? I just fell in love with the place and I have made great friends of the local ranchers. I have more hunts where the only thing I brought back were photographs. But some are just stunning. And yes, it is an acquired taste. But the desert has so much life that isn't apparent. In this area I have harvested Mule Deer, Javelina, Fox, Bobcat, Dove, Quail. I haven't harvested any Coyotes here as the coats tend to be pretty rough. For those I go to the high country where they put on winter coats that are magnificent.
Today's "Deer Stand Humor" that I just got onto the computer this afternoon. Figured this thread would be an appropriate location for it. We stand hunters can always use a laugh......
