Well I did a couple of ladder texts with new weatherby vangaurd 2- 25.06. My best group is with 50.0 g IMR 4350. IT is less than 0.4 in. With 120g Nosler Partions at 100yds.. I have also tested 117 g hornady RN and BTSP. NEXT trip to range will test all 3 with 50.0 g IMR 4350.

BTW I RESIZED 30.06 brass in one step with my 25.06 dies.i had to adjust dies some but my weatherby likes that repurposed 30.06. I did have to trim that brass after sizing in the 25 06 dies .

I have question my load of 50g is a mid range load with ImR 4350. I have read that other powders may give more velocity such as Retumbo with the 120g partions. Would my rifle still tend to group at a mid range charge say with Retumbo?
This is a theoretical questions LOL

It seems that powders seem to like certain pressure values with certain bullet weights. The best and only place I know to observe this in data is the nossler data. They mark the best charge tested for each powder. You can go up or down in bullet weight and watch the dynamic.

My standard 25-06 shoots awesome but with one powder per bullet weight. I dunno why but I'm not overly upset about it.

When I got it initially I thought I would just use the 100gr bullets and just in time Nosler released the Ballistic Tip. I chose IMR-4831 and it went together like peanut butter and jelly. After a couple of deer seasons I decided that those little grenades were just a bit much for the smaller deer I was hunting and switched to the Partition and rolled on. Same nice groups only less devastated meat.

Along this same time I was given several boxes of the Sierra 100gr and figured I'd give it a try. I couldn't get them to group under 3" at 100yds no matter what I tried. So a call to Sierra and after a nice conversation with one of their tech's I tried IMR-4350. Low and behold back to dime size groups. Had to be a fluke, but with time and half a dozen more powders it proved legit. It too proved to be a bit more than I was wanting for the white tails.

I moved up to the 115gr Partition about a year later and RL22. That combo delivers stellar accuracy and 3150fps for plenty of power and sighted at 200yds is simple to hold out to 400yds or so. It has been good enough for head shots on coyotes to 350, and a skunk at 285 with a Barnes X. I have removed problem critters surgically from over 200yds that were destroying feeder motors. The other bullets I have used are as mentioned the 115gr Barnes X and the 110gr Accubond. Same powder charge as the 115 Partition and seated to the same length base to ogive as the 100gr BT.

Overall it has been just load the charge needed for any of the bullets, and after a quick check on paper your good to go. A few years ago my oldest grandson and I loaded up some of the 110's, cleaned the barrel really well and I lit a couple up. The first round out of the clean barrel hit low, the other two are pretty typical of what it does on a regular basis, this was at 250yds with a gusty cross wind and a 200yd zero.

The three 25/06 's that I have had all seemed to like the 117 gr Sierras with IMR 4831. Very good accuracy and good velocity.

If you can get groups at less than a half inch with partitions I would give that rifle a good night kiss and let it sleep until hunting season.

I have read that Nosler Partitons are not really accurate bullets but My new Weatherby Vanguard 2 wood stock seems to like the 120 g partions as well as 117 Hornady SPBT and RN bullets. I am still testing and will post my results in the future.
I have purchased a TC Venture in 7MM 08 about 12 years ago it is a basic rifle with composite stock shoots very accurately and has taken several deer.. I thought I would try a nicer wood stock Weatherby and I am very impressed with the Venture 2!!
