This is the theory I came up with to change fat into steel. -50/365=92-.357/.38
My Wife made an agreement that if I lose 50 lbs in a year, I can purchase another gun! Orginally wanting the Ranch hand in .357/.38 but wife said she would prefer a 2nd concealed carry. I already own the SR9c and love it but now she got me to thinking a 2nd concealed carry would be nice! Just need suggestions what ya'll would think is a good 2nd concealed carry would be for a budget of $500? Thinking of the Walther p99 or S&W M&P in the 9mm. want to stick to same ammo and not have to add to my ammo collection another caliber! Thanks Kurt.

well I just bought a Bersa Thunder 9mm Ultra Compact Pro and so far I love it. has bold white dot sights, true double action, external safety and slide release built for right/left hand shooters, external hammer with decocker, picatinny rail, finger groove grip, 2 magazines with 13+1 capacity all in a compact platform. even comes with a cool bersa keychain with ur gun key on it. paid $300 brand new in the box. only burnt up 1 clip in it but seems to be pretty accurate and recoil is no problem. i got this gun to be my primary carry for concealment and I think i'm goin to be real happy with it. maybe worth looking into.

S&W M&P, Compact version if necessary (it will take full sized magazines, add a spacer and you have a full sized grip).

How are going to lose the weight? :)

I like the M&P personally, but an XD also a very capable weapon. I got the M&P on aesthetics when grip and feel were even between the two.

Not to flog the horse, but a .40 in either platform can be easily adapted to .357 sig with a barrel change, and 9mm with a barrel and appropriate mags, giving you 3 guns for relatively little further cost.

Good luck with the loss, just remember Don't drive yourself insane with rules, moderation in everything, including moderation or you'll just sabotage yourself.

If the SR9c works for you then try a Tanfoglio or CZ.

I've been hitting the treadmill every morning before work for about a year now.

    I haven't lost a single solitary pound whatsoever.:banghead:

Good luck with the weight loss. 50 pounds in a year means cutting 500 calories per day! (unless you're currently gaining, in which case you need to cut even more). 1 lb. per week is really about the maximum you can lose without significant health risks. Weight is very hard to lose. Jogging at 6 mph for a solid hour only burns about 700-900 calories, which is about as much as 1 hamburger and a handful of chips. And if you're fairly average size, you burn 2400 calories per day + exercise. Try counting calories for a day. It's amazing how little food you have to eat, to lose weight. 1 medium sized sandwich = an entire lunch.

Anyway, on the gun, it depends on what the purpose would be. "Spare" gun if your primary breaks? Backup carried at the same time? An alternate gun for when you have to dress differently? The SR9c is about the same size as a "compact" Glock. Both are really what I'd call a full size gun. You might want to think about a pocket pistol, like a Kel-Tec or Kahr. You might be able to find a used Kahr for around $500 if you look around.

I lost 40 lbs in two months by doing nothing more than removing High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) from my diet. Start looking for it in what you eat, you'll be amazed how many products they put it in.

You can't lose a lot of weight by exercise alone. Calorie reduction plus exercise is pretty much the only way. I recently completed the P90X program and lost several inches from my waistline. Didn't lose much weight, since the fat turned into muscle elsewhere.

You sir, have an excellent wife who obviously really cares about you. Go to Hulu and watch a few episodes of "Losing it with Jillian Michaels" for inspiration.

If you already have the SR9c, perhaps it's time for the full size? Compatible mags, ammo, and manual of arms. Only difference is that in cold weather you can carry a full sized model of the same gun.
    Just a thought.

Too bad you want to stay with the same caliber or I would suggest a snubbie wheelgun. Everyone should have one of those.

There are 9mm snubbies. I was thinking of suggesting one actually.

Exercise is of course great but the majority of it is calorie reduction. Do a bit of research (The Mayo Clinic's site is great for this) to see how large a serving actually is and how many servings of each staple (whole grains, dairy, vegetables, etc) you should eat and eat no more than that. It's almost entirely willpower, which is easier said than done. However, it can be done. It might be easier if you find a buddy who has the same goals that you can exercise with to encourage each other. Plus for some people its hard to pull out of something if you have someone along to help you reach your goals.
Forgot to add. Definitely introduce weight lifting to your routine in order to help lose weight quicker. Your muscles require more calories to maintain than fat does so this should result in you burning more calories in order to maintain these (newfound?) muscles.

I just don't know if $500 will buy one, though, other than the Taurus 905. And, I haven't heard much about that gun.

I'm guessing that if I could do that I would probably have enough for Barrett Model 95 with enough left over for some ammo.

    Ask you guys a question.

How many of you are on some kind of medication for high blood pressure or other ailments that can be helped if you exercise and lose weight?

Now that medication cost $$$. Improve yourself so you don't need those meds and think of all the bills you will not pay!

And that money can then go on a new gun, plus your health will dramatically improve!

If you are having trouble losing the weight see if you can substitute a body fat % reduction because if you are sedentary you'll gain muscle while losing fat so don't get discouraged if your weight stays the same, especially for the first few months. Also make sure you exercise. The body is incredibly adaptive and if your calorie intake drops it can decide to burn those pesky energy hungry dense muscles you aren't using instead of fat.
Cutting 250 calories a day from your diet and exercising for 250 calories a day isn't unreasonable. Plus switching to healthy food from junk means you get to eat a lot more for the same number of calories :)

If you start to get discouraged go to a range that rents guns and try out a few to see how they feel (and take your wife since it she's suggesting things) and shoot for both of you.

While some people are nay-sayers, the Atkins diet really works well for my family.

My mother lost 40 lbs, My father lost 70 in a year, both getting back to their weight when they were in their 20's.

The wife and I have been doing it for a few months now, my wife would kill me if I listed how much she's lost, but I've lost 15+ so far (replacing most of the fat with muscle)

I don't exercise much more than I used to, but have been dropping inches and pounds. I can fit into pants I haven't worn in years, and feel a lot better about myself.

If you lose 50 pounds on her schedule, you deserve both guns.

The main reason the Atkins diet works is because it can fool people into skipping the junk food. Potato chips, pretzels, twinkies, etc. What do all of those have in common? I recommend re-introducing whole grain, low sugar products into your diet. Fiber is good for you.
