"There's no such thing as combat shooting"

I found this to be an interesting conversation. I want to say right of the bat I am a civilian and have never been in a firefight or had to shoot someone. I am certain that nothing can replicate the real thing. The one thing I want to add is the biggest adrenalin dumps and fear I have experienced were from competing in boxing and doing some jui jitsu tournaments. More so than street fights which happen very quickly and end quickly if you are trained and they are not. If you watch them they don't seem that intense but I saw one my teammates get their arm broken in these tournaments. You mind has alot of time to mess with you and you can absolutely get seriously hurt in boxing and jui jitsu. 5 minutes seems like an eternity in these matches and the reason I am mentioning it is after doing them for a while I became comfortable with the adrenalin dump and performing under pressure of serious injury. Thats my experience and I am sure it doesn't compare to what leo's and millitary have to do, all respect to them. I think finding a way to simulate the adrenalin dump and learning to perform under those circumstances could be beneficial to civilians. Maybe someone with a few fights plus firearm combat experience can chime in. This is just my uneducated theory.

Even in the same room when you get the crap surprise out of you, but not all military fights are at distance. Sometimes you come out of a room and into a hall (where you just were a couple minutes ago) and bingo... 3 hajis... within bad breath distance.

There is still a difference between military close combat and a civilian self defense encounter. Unless the private citizen goes everywhere as a member of a trained team and the law in your state permits the same ROE as in Iraq or Afghanistan there is little to compare the two. It’s the same thing for LE gunfights. Different ROEs, different mission.

Unfortunately there are few resources we can go to learn about civilian gunfights. Military actions and LE shootings are reviewed and analyzed. Civilian shootings are rarely analyzed for anything more than legality. We tend to look to military or LE experience because that’s what we’ve got. Tom Givens and Mas Ayoob give us some information but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the data we have on military and LE gunfights.

Unfortunately we are unlikely to get more because of the legal system in this country. Unless someone is charged and has the money to hire expert witnesses to break it all down for the jury we are unlikely to see a private citizen voluntarily tell the story and have it analyzed so we all can learn because of civil and criminal liability that might entail.

I just reread this entire thread, and I'm to point of saying that all we're doing here now is engaging in a circular discussion. Nothing new is being brought forth, and those who keep asking questions don't have the experience to understand what they have not experienced.
