i just got a colt sp2 for fairly cheap but now i realy want to build a full size
ar15a4/m16a4. i realy want a colt upper but they are ungodly expencive. the reason i want a colt is because they are generaly mil spec. and my two colts that i have are by far the best guns ive ever owned and would love to have as many colt parts on the build as posible. i was thinking an lmt lower. should i save up for this or is there a good alternitive? i at least want a colt barrel on the upper? any sugestions?

You know what the funny thing is? Most other manufacturers, concerning the lower reciever, are more "mil-spec*" than Colt. Colt uses larger FCG pins and often have a sear block.

Anyway, pick a quality reciever from, Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA, Stag, CMMG, Saber, or who ever has the logo you want. You can peice the rest together using what ever you want. You can find Colt barrels (not that they're better but if its what you want), uppers, BCG, etc on AR15.com's EE.

Colt does MPI test their bolts which is nice; I would get either one of theirs or a MPI tested one from LMT or CMT.

*I realize there is not a "mil-spec" for AR15.

A small difference to point out, CMT does MPI their bolts but of that list only LMT and Colt fire a proof load from them first. Many people who seem more qualified than me have told me that proof shot is what makes the MPI worthwhile.

To the OP. Any reputable lower would be fine.

FN uppers are mil spec and dont have the need for the push pin adapters to fit another brand of lower.... unless you put a colt lower on one.

do any of those companys have an exeptionaly tight fit between upper and lower? im looking for a perfect fit, my ar that i have now shakes like a rattle snakes tail. i hate that wobbley sound. any sugestions?

I didn't know that. It would make sense the testing would be more accurate after a proof load.

There's really no way to guarntee a really tight upper/lower fit unless you can find a matched set. I've heard RRA's uppers are spec. a little wider at the take-down pins to fit tighter but I don't have any first hand knowledge. There are options though if it bugs you enough; the accu-wedge thing and some special take-down pin replacements.

IT is not as well known as some of the above mentioned companies, but I have had outstanding results from my Double Star lower. I built a M-4gery from it and a kit from Del-Ton and have been completely satisified.

I have an RRA upper that out of spec, and the upper/lower cant get any tighter. I have to tap the rear pin out with a punch and a magazine (imrprovised hammer).

I dont think a tight fit really means anything anyway. Just a way to ask more for a matched upper and lower.
