• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

thinking about buying or building a home defense shotgun.

Mossberg 590A1, possibly the "Retrograde" version (wood stock and adds back the heat shield). frankly this is THE pump I've been wanting for this use for like 30years, but i'm not sure it's the best option anymore.
The 590A1 Retrograde is my choice for a home defense shotgun. And I own Remington 870s, Mossberg 500s and another 590. I love the old school wood, the heat shield, the 9 round capacity, the all-steel parts, the tang safety, the ghost ring sights.

Ahem... Interesting perspectives here. However, it seems the first consideration has been overlooked. Before settling on a particular shotgun, should you not first consider how you intend to secure the weapon and still maintain rapid emergency access.

Unless you are competing in a class like heavy metal, the auto is king. I used a Mossberg 930 JM PRO when I competed in 3 gun. An autoloader with a loading gate that doesn't need to be activated by another button is a significant advantage over something like a 1100 or a similar design- loading is usually the most challenging part of shotgun stages. For HD, a pump is what I prefer- specifically a 870. HD weapons should have a white light mounted for obvious reasons. $urefire dedicated forend lights are the top tier for this application, and you may pay as much for one of these as you did for the gun, but you could also use the magpull forend with MLOCK, add a small section of rail on your off-side, and add a cheaper light like a inforce for thumb activation. I did this with a H&R 870 clone that lives in my truck.

If cost is the primary factor, and looking at your considerations I think not, buy a Maverick 88 and modify as you wish. By far, the best accessory for the Maverick 88 is the Defender Tactical mini shell adapter. Turns an 8 shot 20" magazine tube into a 13 shot tube. And you are not limited to just mini shells with it in, like with the older Opsol adapter. Mix and match if that blows your hair back.

Cost not being a factor but HD is your main use? I would invest in the new Mossberg 590S Shockwave. S models have a redesigned bolt and carrier to load mini shells. Which I am obviously a huge fan of. Add in a pistol brace and you have a handy and compact hitter.
