Those Ruger Scout rifles aren't cheap these days. IIRC, they were considerably less expensive years ago. Also, for a few hundred more, a person can get a Steyr.

That's the way to go, at least until Remington gets it together. They have a nice hunter/target hybrid model.

Looks pretty decent. What glass did you decide upon?

I have several .308s and one of my favorites is a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter. About $500 plus but then again the Howa 1500 is the same rifle.

I bought a Tikka last fall and can confirm they're every bit as good as people say they are. It's a lightweight tack driver with a great trigger. Not exactly expensive either. That said, I hope your Remington works out.

Within the past year I have purchased two "new old stock" Remington 700 rifles. They shoot well and are in good shape with no issues at all.

I believe that you will be happy with your choice, and there is a huge aftermarket if you want to make changes to it (trigger, etc.) in the future. Most of the problems reported on Remington 700 rifles are the result of good fellows with limited experience reading posts on the internet and repeating those opinions with some embellishment.

I am sure you will like your 700. My favorite rifle is a Tikka but I bought a Savage and Remington last year from Walmart on close out. The Remington was very accurate. I didn't like the stock on either one but the Remington's was easy to replace.

Vortex diamondback tactical 6-24x50. I thought about going for something for the viper lineup instead, but I am not shooting extreme distances and a viper seemed a bit overkill so I decided to keep the money. Better to spend it on ammo :D

So I promised a picture once I picked it up. So ya know you only had to wait almost 2 months for the powers that be to put a stamp on a piece of paper somewhere at DC police HQ :uhoh:

    But here you go!
