I purchase ammo in MS fairly often from both WM and gun shops have never been asked for my DL#. So unless MS enacted a new state law (doubtful), that theory doesn't seem to hold up.

I'm leaning toward a misinformed employee.

I have had them ask one time if it was for a handgun or rifle. I told them it was for neither, I just collect it and stack it on shelves.

I went to Wally World last night and bought some 9mm. This was a first...instead of cashing me out at the ammo counter, he just handed me the boxes and I continued shopping. I paid for it at the front counter with everything else. That has "never" happened before.

I have not heard of any MS state law requiring a DL for ammo purchase.

Are you sure he didn't just enter your birthdate? Maybe the ammo prompt is now like the alchol prompt ( "Is customer under 40"-"Enter Birthdate." I've never had this happen to me and I bought some 9mm a couple days ago.

I've never been asked to show my ID to purchase ammo in Mississippi ever.

I made a purchase from walmart this week and they didn't ask for ID. They didn't ask the pistol or rifle question either.

There is no law in Mississippi requiring an ID check for ammo purchases.

The local WM has all ammo behind glass so you need help from an employee.

Last week I went to another one (20 minutes away) no glass, picked up 4 Federal bulk packs. At the register the young guy scans one and says "is this for a handgun?" I pointed to the box and said says right here long rifle. He scans the next one and then the third and said with 3 you have to talk to a manager. She comes over see's the 4 and said "why do you need so much ammo?" My reply same reason fat people need dognuts and pop! She said the sale was "extreme" and encouraged me to only buy one. I reminded her of the 6 box's per day policy and she refused the sale! :banghea

The guy behind me almost died laughing when I made the fat people crack.:D
I was in a huge hurry and just left.

Federal Farmer I would have took the time to go over that heifers head and talked to the Store Manager plus I would make a call to corportate in Arkansas.

Wal Mart exist to sell stuff not tell you your buying too much when HQ says it is 6 a day and your buying 4.

What amazes me is that you were able to find six boxes of .380 at WallyWorld. I haven't seen any boxes of .380 at WallyWorld, or anywhere else, since Christmas, and I've been looking. :)

Remember if someone asks to see your id for some dumbass reason like in the op's post or to buy beer or whatever you dont have to give them the id. And then they wont have time to remember the number to enter into a computor.

You see with your eys and not your hands.

I buy ammo at 2 local walmarts all the time, including this week.

Never been asked for my DL, and all they do is look at my FOID card to make sure the it's valid by the date on it, but have never written down or entered any info' into their system.

Bought 2 boxes of bulk federal .22LR on Monday. Only thing he wanted was my money.

I think that is because you bought over a certain limit. I was in Wal-Mart last week and a guy had bought 6 boxes of 9mm or 40 S&W and it was over some type of limit, so I think that is why.

All they ever ask me is if the .22's are for a rifle or handgun.

The other ammo I buy .223, 7.62x54, .40's, etc are self explanatory.

Never been able to find ammo at wal-mart so I wouldn't know. Also, they don't sell firearms at the ones near me, apparently this is local since some still do?

Maybe you look young, and they want to see your DL for age verification, without a hassle, they just say the Feds make us do it....Or maybe she just wants your address to hook up with you later.

Guys - stop guessing and just look at the facts, starting with the post from Oldfluff on page one. This is a wal-mart policy based on an agreement with anti-gun mayor bloomberg. If you don't believe me. ..

    http://wcbstv.com/politics/wal.mart.bloomberg.2.699395.html

check the link, or just do a search for Wal-mart bloomberg and see what comes up.

In eastern Kentucky never been asked any questions when purchasing 38, 9mm or 45. Maybe since all of these are usually handgun rounds they don't ask rifle of handgun as in a previous reply?

I don't understand the rifle or handgun question. What's the correct answer?
