First welcome.

Second, I haven't seen it specifically mentioned in this thread so I'll toss it in. When you are cleaning the bolt on your SKS make sure that the firing pin rattles freely (you don't need to tear that assembly down completely, just soak it in mineral spirits or boil it in water for a while). Chances are that nothing would happen if you didn't do a good job cleaning. However Murphy is out there looking for a place to pop up . With the SKS if there is gunk around the firing pin it can get stuck with the pin out. When that happens you suddenly have a fully automatic rifle that won't stop until you are out of ammo. Not good when all you were expecting was one BANG per trigger pull.

SKS' are great sturdy little rifles & ammo is cheap enough that you can really get to know yours. Have fun.

Sven and others would do well to do a THR search under the guns they just acquired.

Learn how hot water or sun will remove cosmoline better than anything. Also, work up the round count in the SKS when you take it to the range. If doesn't go full auto slam fire mode (sks has killed shooters this way) on mags loaded several times with 2 or 3 rounds, then work up to 4 or more rounds.
Use a sling wrapped around your left arm; muzzle climb for your head will be restricted. I always use a sling on all long guns.

Good choice on one fine design rifle!

More people owning guns makes gun control less likely.

More people buying guns and selling them because they only "wanted to make a point" drives down the price of seldom (or never) fired guns.

If the lunatic, leftist fringe decides to USE those guns for something silly (like being upset over a fair presidential election)....well, society will be safer once they are dealt with.
