I cannot stress how important it is for everyone to get involved and write, call, meet with their elected officials and tell them how much you oppose ANY new legislation surrounding firearms.

Don't expect "someone else" to be your personal activist. Just do it. Make a promise to yourself to spend just 15 minutes to be involved. you will be surprised how many people you can reach out to in that amount of time. Find a good letter...cut (modify if needed) and paste, hit send. Or better yet. Write a quick note, throw it in an envelope and put a stamp on it.

Phone, email, and snail mail. Repeat the phone every couple of days.

Do not forget your representative(s) in the house. If it becomes obvious that an AWB, magazine ban, or background scheme won't get through the house it will make fence-sitting senators less likely to even call it to a vote -- they don't want to go on record, especially for a lost cause.

On the other days, keep in touch w/ your state reps, especially if your state legislature is in session right now. This takes 20 minutes a day, tops.

Good advice. Its up to us to make this legislation not happen. Good job guys.

I've been typing so many letters lately that my WPM has got to be around 80-85 now. That probably isn't much for typists, but for me that is huge.

Yep. Just called one of my Senators today (Rob Portman- R of Ohio) and the woman that I spoke to said that he was opposed to any AWB or magazine limitation but for universal background checks. It seems that this is still a seemingly safe stance for Republicans to feel like they are doing something without (they think) angering their gun owning constituency. I made my points on all three and asked her to relay my message that all new gun legislation should be opposed. I'll keep working on him.

Thats great. i've been doing the email thing and a town hall meeting. Tomorrow i'm going to write a couple letters (snail mail) and make a call or two. It shouldn't take too long.
