I was at my local gun shop doing the paperwork on a new Ruger Precision Rifle when I spotted a beautiful pistol in the display case. I asked to see it and the clerk said it was one of the nicest 1911s he'd ever seen. I looked it over and it was a two-tone Les Baer full-size 1911 in .45 ACP. No idea what model, but it had a stainless frame, blued slide, ambidextrous safety, target sights, and was in perfect condition with no imperfections. I asked the price and was told $1700. Most I've ever paid for a pistol was $900. In searching online, I believe it is either a Concept III model, which sells for around $2800, or the Boss model, which is $3500 new.
I have a full-size Colt 1911 A1 in .45acp, a Kimber Crimson Carry in .45acp, a Remington R1 Limited in .40 S&W, and two Tisas 1911s in 10mm. I have no use for this pistol. But I was blown away by the craftsmanship and quality of the firearm.
I was just on Gunbroker looking for a similar used Les Baer pistol and the closest comparable pistol was a used Les Baer Custom 2-tone with an idiot mark and other wear and tear for $1950. Seems like the local pistol is quite a bargain.
I would love to buy a new Les Baer in 10mm, but those start at around $3k, so I could buy this one, then flip it on Gunbroker, and take the profit and put it towards a new 10mm. Or I could just buy the local pistol and know that I have a very nice 1911 that was a bargain.
I did see that the Dan Wesson 10mm 1911s are much more affordable at under $2k new... How do they compare to the Les Baer?
